The X-Files: Four Times Fox Mulder Managed To Keep His Mouth Shut (and One Time He Didn't)...
Summary: He blinks, and says something else entirely.
Reccer's Notes: A canon-compliant short-short by one of my favorite writers. In less than 1000 words, through five episode tags, Amal Nahurriyeh traces the slow transformation of Mulder and Scully's relationship from colleagues to friends to much, much more.

The X-Files: Machines of Freedom by Amalnahurriyeh
Summary: The end of the world is coming. And they're doing everything in their power to stop it.
Reccer's Notes: I've recced this once before, but since it is one of my favorite fics and it fits the category, I'm excited to get to rec it again. However, explaining exactly how it fits would be a huge plot spoiler (for the story, not the series), and I hate spoilers.

Since I'd assumed we'd never get a proper ending to the series from 1013, I was thrilled when amalnahurriyeh posted this to xf_bigbang 2009. (Now that Fox has approved six new episodes, all bets are off.) In "Machines of Freedom," amalnahurriyeh takes on seasons 8,9, IWTB and the borked X-Files myth-arc and wins in a landslide. If you feel you were let down by TPTB of TXF (and who doesn't?) and have always craved fix-it fic, look no further. I can't imagine anyone could give us a better crafted, more exciting, more moving resolution to everything from the planned (December 22, 2012) alien invasion to the William plot arc. This is without a doubt the best post-IWTB era fic anyone has written to date, and I would put it up there with any of the fandom's classics. Heck, it's better than 99% of the fandom's classics. Amal is a professional-caliber writer, so no prior knowledge of the convoluted canon or the second movie is necessary. You can jump right in and trust she'll catch you up as you go along.

This novel has three prequels (links at the MoF master post) and a post-MoF universe she calls the Caseyverse. There were also illustrations, a PDF file and a soundtrack with the original post. I cannot vouch for the PDF or music links but the hand-drawn illustrations, by scooly42, are all still up and they are gorgeous.

The X-Files: By the End of the Day by Amalnahurriyeh
Summary: Five times Dana's med school friends helped her out.
Reccer's Notes: The X-Files unrelenting focus on the claustrophobic relationship between Fox Mulder and Dana Scully didn't allow much screen time for any of Scully's other important relationships, including friendships. Mulder had the Lonegunmen to call on when needed. Why couldn't Scully have had something similar, a network of colleagues and friends from medical school? This wonderful response to that question was written for me for my donation for fandomaid's auction for Hurricane Sandy relief.

The X-Files: The Keeping of Secrets by Amalnahurriyeh
Summary: The thing about Dana is she knows how to keep a secret.
Reccer's Notes: One of the hardest things about watching the series is seeing the toll working on the X-Files takes on Scully's life. It was great to read a story where she maintains her close friendship with Ellen, the mother of her godson, whom we meet briefly in "The Jersey Devil." In this story, she makes one appearance per season, and then one post-the 2008 movie. Amal lists the specific episodes, but it does help to know the series when reading this story. amalnahurriyeh is my favorite writer in this fandom. You should read everything she's written. Yes, everything.

Sociology RPF: Many Forms of Resistance by amalnahurriyeh
Summary: No one had ever expected a critical theory conference to end so poorly. The worst you could usually expect was that someone would get wine thrown on them.
Reccer's Notes: C. Wright Mills and Michel Foucault fight zombies from the back of Mills' motorcycle.

Yes, that is the summary of this story. IT IS AWESOME, full of academic back-biting, sociology snark, Foucault being a jerk, Mills being patient, and one of the best stories that came out of Yuletide 2010.
