The Dropbox Comp – Stratechery by Ben Thompson
It’s been two years since I wrote that, and while Slack is still growing, albeit more slowly, the question of which company controls the future of enterprise computing remains an open one. Is it Amazon via infrastructure, Microsoft via infrastructure and identity and email, Slack via chat? Google via all-of-the-above?

What seems clear is that it won’t be Dropbox — both because files weren’t the right route and also because the company spent far too much time and energy chasing a non-existent consumer opportunity — but that’s ok. There is still value — at least $10 billion in value, I’d bet — in doing a job and doing it well, whether that be as a startup in 2008 or a public company in 2018.

Dissident | Together, we are Dissident
Dissident : The slow web platform for creative minds. Reboot your digital life. Take back control of your files, follow what really matters, explore a timeless public library.

The new digital world has left us drifting. The technologies that were meant to empower us have made us passive. Machines have taken over the responsibility of serving our experiences, deciding what we should see, think and feel. And your little home gardens have placed behind giant walls.

At Dissident, we are on a mission to slow down the pace of the Internet, to opt out from a world dominated by Artificial Intelligence and take time to nourish our human intellect.

Our mission is driven not only by a certain nostalgia for the past, but also in the belief of a more utopian future. A future where humans get back in the driver's seat with new ways of exploring a world of infinite content and crafting our own unique space there.

We are now taking the first steps into this future by recreating an ”analog internet”. We are restoring what machines have broken apart and giving creative minds space to breathe, time for serendipity and uncluttered selection.

We believe that this is a mission worth fighting for, and we hope that you will join us.

Why we are ceasing support of the open source Globus Toolkit. In a word, funding. The open source Globus Toolkit, like any software, requires constant effort to answer support requests, apply security patches, and perform other maintenance. This work has long been financed by grants, primarily from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). However, our last such grant ends this fall and, after extensive discussions with funding agencies and Globus Toolkit users, we see little opportunity for further funding for such support activities.

[10.10] [OS X] Finder extensions spams console system log · Issue #3782 · owncloud/client · GitHub
FYI in my case Box Sync was causing this. Even while the Box Sync app was not running, nor was its' client icon visible in the Mac bar.

Killing the Box Sync Extension within Activity Monitor stopped the log spamming.
