Samsung SM-W2017 flagship clamshell phone leaks in images
The move to remove the traditional headphone jack from the new iPhones has been dubbed a “courageous” move by Apple, and one that will take audio on smartphones – at least in its wireless form – a step into the future. But while the Cupertino giant has been touting its boldness to think about the...

macbook - Turn off the built-in monitor on MBP El Capitan with clamshell open - Ask Different
This post goes over how you can use the “magnet technique” to run your MacBook Pro in clamshell mode with the lid open:
"Given how none of the old methods seemed to work in El Capitan, the magnet method sounded pretty interesting to me, so I decided to try it.

"I got the smallest and weakest hobby/craft magnet I had, and ran it through the top left corner of the Macbook Air, as some of those other answers said that's the location. I suspect the location may differ between Macbook models.

"In my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), the location seemed to be on the left side, slightly above the Tab key."

Can I overheat my MacBook Air if I close its lid and use external monitor? | MacRumors Forums
"It's perfectly safe to operate in clamshell mode, as Mac notebooks are designed to do just that.

"Heat radiates in all directions and dissipates through the aluminum body. While clamshell mode or using a keyboard covering slightly inhibits dissipation, it's not enough to cause problems or raise temps more than a few degrees, since the primary cooling is through the vents.

"There has never been any air intake or exhaust vents through the keyboard on any Mac notebook. For all Mac notebooks except the MBP-Retina, both intake and exhaust has always been through the vents in the rear near the hinge. The new MBP-Retina has intake vents along the sides at the bottom and exhaust through the rear vents, near the hinge."

Should my Macbook Pro be closed or opened while connected to an external monitor? : mac
On an early-2011 MacBook Pro:
"With the Lid open it the temps stabilized @ 94o C and the clock speed @ ~ 2.6GHz.
"With the Lid closed it the temps climbed to 95o C and the clock speed kept throttling down to 2.36GHz when i stopped the test.
"So there you have it on A non retina unibody Macbook Pro the temps and performance are better if the lid is left open."

Horizontal or Vertical stand for cooling a Macbook? - Ask Different
"Here is my 'Reverse V’ method [for keeping one’s MacBook Pro cool]

"1. Connect all cables (video) and close the lid.
2. Wake from external mouse/keyboard. This will force using only the external display.
3. Open the lid to about 20-40 degrees. Internal display will remain off. The Macbook will be in a "V" like shape.
4. Put it on the desktop in reversed "V" form on something soft. I recommend old polyurethane mouse pad or shaped polystyrene.”

Another commenter adds:
"On my four year old MacBook Pro - the internal temperatures and fan speeds are climbing and running it vertically rather than on a Griffin Elevator in clamshell mode. When my room temperature gets hot, vertical helps the fans stay at idle in clamshell mode."

InsomniaX | semaja2: Disable lid sleep (and idle sleep)
" enables the use of Clamshell mode (OS operation with the lid closed) in the absence of an external display or power source. It does this by disabling your Mac's auto-sleep feature, meaning you can continue to play music through external speakers or leave big files downloading with the lid down."
