Eye for Eye and Tooth for Tooth
Summary: Bilbo is kidnapped by dwarves looking to hurt the king. Though he manages to escape, he is badly injured and no longer feels safe in Erebor. Thorin, furious at the harm done to his burglar, seeks vengeance. Unfortunately, all he really wants is to find a way to make Bilbo comfortable at his side once again, and that is more difficult.

|| When he’d chosen to remain in Erebor and help Thorin rebuild his kingdom, Bilbo Baggins had foolishly assumed that the days of adventure and peril were in the past. Perhaps he had anticipated a degree of hardship at the start. Maybe only four or five meals a day until they made it through the first winter. One might also reasonably expect that winter inside of a mountain would be a bit chilly and warmth would be something to seek out during such a time. He may even have envisioned some physical difficulty during the work of rebuilding, as accidents happened and any cook knew that a kitchen knife could cut as easily as a sword.

What he had not expected was to be kidnapped, held in a dark, freezing room, and starved.

Death by Flowers
Summary: Thorin manages to encounter a particularly deadly flower while the Company travels through Mirkwood: a form of sex pollen that may take days to burn out of his system if it doesn't kill him first. To survive, he's going to need to find a partner.

Fortunately, he and Mistress Baggins have grown quite close.

Unfortunately, Thorin has decided not to pursue Bilbo any further until he can court her properly once the Mountain is reclaimed.

It would help if he had informed Bilbo of any of this, especially when an Elvish flower is doing its level best to kill him.

Red Lines in Dark Stone
Summary: After BOFA Thorin is wrecked by guilt, convinced that most of the bloodshed is his fault (see: the arkenstone debacle). As king and responsible for Erebor, he decides that he will do anything to stop himself from succumbing to the gold sickness again, even if it means hurting himself.

When his family and friends find out, they don't react as he'd expected them to.

(Original prompt in the author's notes.)

|| The first time it happens it’s an accident, the shards of the pretty little vase Bilbo had brought back from the Shire having left shallow cuts on his left hand and arm as it shattered under the pressure of his grip. Thorin had broken a lot of things lately, when his mind flashes back to battlefields and sickness without warning and the sudden assault makes him gasp for air into constricting lungs.

He stands in the middle of his chambers, unheeding of the incongruously bright flowers littering the floor around him as he stares at the drops of red on his scarred skin and finds himself distantly thinking this could work.

It doesn’t take long for it to become a habit.

Summary: Escaping Thranduil's dungeons via barrels doesn't go to plan. What plan there was.

Why Hobbits don't swim. Most Hobbits.

|| The water was an icy shock, slamming into his small body and forcing the air out his lungs. Bilbo twisted, icy pain shooting through his limbs, and clawed for the surface.

He broke free with a gasp, surprised at how fast he had dragged himself up. Hobbits weren't known for their swimming.

"Well done, Master Baggins." Thorin smiled fiercely at him from where the company waiting in their barrels.

He'd like to... he'd like a lot of things.
But at the very least Bilbo would like to find his way back to the friendship he had with Thorin before everything got all twisted up.

However not everyone wants to be Thorin's friend, and not everyone is happy with how Thorin has been ruling Erebor, and most importantly for Bilbo's fate; not everyone is as blind as Bilbo. King Under the Crown - Lumelle - The Hobbit (Jackson Movies) [Archive of Our Own]

The Company of Thorin Oakenshield survives the Battle of Five Armies, but not without a cost. Thorin lies unconscious, Fíli is struggling with his injuries and the burden of playing Regent, and Ori may have taken on more than he can handle, while others are all dealing with their own pains and fears and secrets. It's not only dwarves in the mountain, of course, not after the battles they have fought, and Bilbo and Tauriel are struggling to find their place in the middle of dwarves with all their secrets and traditions and surprises.

It might seem overly important in the moment to find out who wears a particular braid or what gender they happen to be, yet in the end only a few things remain. As long as you know your family, your love, and your king, everything else will sort itself out.

If it seems like you might be the king... well. Then there may be another thing or two you need to concern yourself with.

a.k.a. the time travel fic where the whole company goes back.

|| In hindsight, Bilbo Baggins of Bag End should have noticed something amiss about his Dwarves.

He should have noticed they were much more polite and pleasant than the last time they arrived. Each one of them, even Thorin Oakenshield, introduced themselves with a grin and a bow fit for a king or a hero (not that Bilbo knew of this custom). You've Got To Be Joking
Summary: Later, Dwalin would blame the Halfling. Him and his blasted interest in gardening. It was Bilbo's fascination with the strange plant-life in Mirkwood that caused all the trouble that followed and the rest of them had only been carried along for the ride.

Cliche: Sex Pollen

|| "Careful with that," Bofur teased, nudging Bilbo with an elbow as he peered over his shoulder at the strange pod. "Looks more like to eat you than the other way round."

"He'd hardly be a mouthful!" Nori called and the others laughed, carrying on walking. Only Oin paused, wondering at the laughter around him and turning to discover its cause. Even from the distance, Dwalin saw the alarm rise on his face, the old Dwarf stumbling back towards them.

"Don't touch it!" Oin shouted. Too late, for the pod swelled abruptly, letting out a short puff of glittering pollen that caught both Bilbo and Bofur full in the face. They folded to the ground without a sound, Bofur sprawling over Bilbo in the dirt and Dwalin caught him up, hauling him off the Halfling with a grunt.

Summary: Bella Baggins has her mother's wanderlust and her father's business sense. We all know how the trip to the Lonely Mountain ought to go...

|| Bella Baggins, as the whole Shire knows, inherited a full share of her infamous mother’s personality, her wanderlust and Tookish love of adventure. But it is impossible for even the stuffiest matron to deny that Bella Baggins also inherited her father’s reliable steadiness and impeccable business sense; and so it is that when Bella Baggins is thirty-three and finally ready to make her very first solo trip out of the Shire, she returns from Rivendell having not only spent three months among the elves, but also having forged a remarkable trade agreement in order to sell the excess produce of the spice gardens which her father so foresightedly planted in the fields around Bag End. The agreement makes her very rich indeed inside of ten years, and her proud father goes to his grave swearing up and down that his daughter is a better businessman than he; her mother, equally proud, watches Bella set out each year with the caravans and wipes away happy tears to see her daughter blossom so.

One of These Days (Again and Again)
Summary: “Right,” Fili said. “We need to all stay alive, then. That shouldn’t be too hard.”

“You try it,” Bilbo muttered. “See how well you do.”

By a curse or a blessing from the Valar, Bilbo finds himself repeating the same horrific day of war outside of Erebor again and again. His repeats are always triggered when someone from the company falls. He suffers days and days on his own before the others begin to repeat the day with him.

One would think that with the whole company, an elf king, and a bowman all knowing what was to come, Bilbo would have an easier time getting them all through the day alive.

One would think that, wouldn't they.

so many beautiful reasons
Summary: They say actions speak louder than words. Thorin hoped his actions would tell Bilbo all he could not say of his feelings. But when courting someone of a different culture, perhaps, a few words would not go astray.

|| “It’s a glory-of-the-snow. I’ve heard of them before but I’ve never seen one. Thorin says they grow here, before the snow even melts sometimes. He said it was to symbolize strength in the face of adversity.” Bilbo blushed again and Nori couldn’t help grinning wickedly and winking at him. Bilbo had learned long ago to ignore him and just continued with his explanation. “He didn’t say what the blue stones are and I didn’t think to ask but the center stone is a chip of the Arkenstone.”

Nori thought there was probably more it than that - you don’t break bits off a bloody priceless heirloom to cheer on someone’s stubbornness, no matter how much you wanted in their pants - but he didn’t push sensing it was a private thing between the two.

And Dori said he didn’t have any decency. He thought maybe Dori agreed with his assessment judging by the look on his face. That was his thinking hard about something serious face. Not that it was truly appropriate now. At least, it didn’t seem to be. But Dori was surprisingly adept at noticing things others missed sometimes. It drove Nori spare as he was supposed to be the one that did that.

“And did he say anything else about the bead? Or the braid?” Dori asked, though Nori couldn’t see why.

“Hmm,” Bilbo frowned in thought as he sipped his tea. “No, that was it.”

Eats Me Up Inside
"Hobbits are accustomed to being well-fed, but Bilbo's too polite to just push in and grab the way the dwarrow do and there's not even scraps left by the time they've finished. But Bilbo doesn't complain; Thorin already finds him annoying and the others don't seem to care all that much for him either, so he tightens his belt and makes do...until he can't anymore. " HKM Prompt

|| "Careful, we don't know the extent of his head injury-

"It's alright, halfing. Just relax-"

"No, no, please-" he tries but his voice is gone and his head aches furiously; though his vision is oddly distorted and the cold is a strong distraction, he sees Gandalf from behind the familiar and unfamiliar dwarrow faces. He tries to convey a request for help but the wizard just looks at him sadly, never saying a word. They lift the mug to his lips again and he can only turn his face away, his stomach already revolting at the little bit he swallowed. They coo at him but also grumble, a mix of indecipherable Westron and gruff Khuzdul.

"You must eat, " one says and he knows them but can't come up with a name, " You've been asleep for too long, Bilbo."

"Please, " he just wants to gather his barrings, wants the pain stop; don't they know that food will weigh him down, will keep him from running and hiding and fighting as the company needs? He feels himself slipping back into darkness but then there's the smell; he watches as a small bottle is removed from near his face, and it takes him a moment to realize that's what's keeping him awake. By this time, they're forcing broth and tonic down his throat but it just starts to come back up.

"Don't fight us, lad-"

"I mustn't-"

But the healers (he assumes that's what they are and later this is confirmed) don't let him fall back asleep, nor do they relent until his belly is uncomfortably full. He cries weakly as they leave him with worried frowns and conspiratorial whispers, all but one with two curled, grey braids, who pats his hand gently as if he's a child. Gandalf approaches soon after the door to the dimly lit room he's in slams shut (he doesn't recognize this lodging and only later on is he told he had been taken into the mountain for treatment). The tall Man bites his lip, combing a hand through Bilbo's thin, sweat soaked hair.

"Oh, old'll be alright."

Blessings and Rituals
Summary: In which Dwarves have a religion - and Hobbits don’t.

|| It made sense to Bilbo that all Dwarven rituals – if that was really what they were and not just habits – included stone. They were stone workers after all. But he couldn't figure out why. Why so many and what was the purpose of it. And he wasn't quite sure how to ask. So he watched and occasionally jotted the little rituals down in his journal for further contemplation later.

It was the watching that eventually got him his explanation. Óin glanced up at him from piling the stones in his nightly upside-down tower and harrumphed. "It's for protection," he said, piling the stones one by one, smallest on the bottom, then the next smallest, and the next, until the biggest one came on top. "I'm asking for Mahal's protection for the camp and for the night. If the tower holds, the camp is protected – if it tips over, it isn't safe."

"Ah," Bilbo said, frowning. He hadn't even considered that it might have to do with gods and such, but it made sense. "That's why Thorin had us switch camps a few days back."

|| Listen, but that would be an AMAZING way to kick Thorin out of goldsickness.
