Gwaine knows, as soon as he meets them, how it is going to end. Which is, not well. Hearts will break, lives will be destroyed, secrets will out, and not one of them is going to live happily-ever-after.

But there's no way in hell that's going to stop him from trying.

"Assisted? I'm pretty sure I saved your life."

"I had the situation perfec- Are you trying to make me reconsider letting you go?"

It was supposed to be a one time thing. Arthur let the sorcerer run off with his life in return for him saving Arthur's. He had never expected to see the boy again, especially not only two days later in Gaius's chambers.

When the King is attacked in his tent on patrol and falls into an unending sleep everyone is worried. What they don't know is that Arthur is fine. In fact he is standing right here next to them, watching them all fret over his prone body. To stave off the boredom whilst a cure is found Arthur takes to wandering the castle and soon discovered a hidden side of Camelot he never knew about.

Or: Arthur's soul gets trapped outside his body and takes to following his servant around. He gets an interesting insight into Merlin, his servant's life and just how much Camelot needs the man.

Arthur's never trusted magic, so no matter how great Gwaine thinks this friend is, he's not going to accept help from a sorcerer so easily. Au in which Merlin doesn't quite end up at Camelot the first time around but still ends up saving Arthur from magical beasts anyway.

Follow up to "Visiting Hours". There are things about their encounter with the bandits that just don't add up for Arthur, and he's determined to make sense of them.

Arthur is severly injured in a fight with a mysterious creature, and Merlin's determination to help brings certain secrets to light and turns Arthur's world upside down.

Merlin walks into his favourite coffee shop one morning to find the Prince of Wales behind the till. His life only gets more surreal from there.

Arthur was just waiting for his manservant to crack, to show some measure of disloyalty but, besides the occasional grumbling and his inability to address Arthur with the proper title, he was…not a model servant because he was still crap, but he was just as good as he had always been.
Arthur wondered how long it would take his magic to corrupt him.

or, in which Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic in his battle against Cornelius Sigan in s02e01 and has to come to terms with the fact that Merlin is a sorcerer.

After ten years, Arthur thinks he has Merlin all figured out. But as he watches Merlin, he finds out that he has more questions than answers. The longer he thinks about it, the more uneasy he feels. So he pushes it aside. Except, he can no longer ignore the questions he has about Merlin.

A collection of unrelated and standalone magic reveal one-shots, because my favourite thing about the Merlin fandom are the reveal fics. Most of these will be centered around Arthur and Merlin, but not all. Some are gen, some are not, and all are set during the canon era.

A few months on from the events of "If My Memory Serves Me Well" Merlin has come to terms with his ordeal, and is adapting well to his new position. But a series of prophetic visions disturbs the stability of his new life, and a dramatic sequence of events sends his destiny tumbling out of his control. Will Merlin, Arthur and Camelot be able to weather the darkness that rises from beneath, or will Morgana be able to bring them, once and for all, to their knees.

When a sorcerer summons monsters from another world, Merlin must summon heroes from another world to help save Camelot. Meanwhile, Dean and Sam Winchester didn't even know they were summon-able.

What if Merlin had been caught rescuing the dragon egg and was not there to help Arthur when he learned what it was like to be king? If Arthur does accept magic, can Merlin convince Morgana to stop the next attack on Camelot?

It wasn't all that unusual for people to hide their daemons; Merlin, however, seems to be taking it a little far.
