Why do Vim experts prefer buffers over tabs? - Stack Overflow
"Vim experts" don't prefer buffers over tabs: they use buffers as the file proxies they are and tab pages as the workspaces they are. Buffers and tab pages have different purposes so preferring one to the other makes no sense whatsoever.

Growable Memory Buffers
This C99 header library provides a simple, portable interface to growable buffers of homogeneous values of any type, similar to a std::vector in C++. The user need not use any particular struct, and the buffer need only initialize to NULL.
