Chilled Sun Gold Tomato Soup with Lots of Summer Stuff
p 279. I used 2 garlic cloves, and green onion instead of chives. used cilantro. Added in a chicken breast.

2 yellow onions
4 garlic cloves
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
8 cups Sun Gold cherry tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp chili flakes
2/3 c buttermilk
1/4 c heavy cream
1 tbsp sherry vinegar

garnish
1 chicken breast diced
1 c sweet corn cut off cob
1 c chopped tomatoes
1 cup diced peaches or cantaloupe
1 c diced cucumber
2 tbsp chopped herbs: Basil, tarragon, chervil, mint, cilantro are good choices
1 tbsp minced chives
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp olive oil

The recipe says the oven prevents scorching and the need to stir mid-cooking, but I checked at 35 minutes and all the liquid had been absorbed BEFORE adding the shrimp. Next time, check at 30.

Baked Beans From Scratch
I omitted the bay leaf and added garlic powder. Boil beans 1.5-2 hours until tender, Cook in crock pot at least 4.5 hours.

1 tsp garlic powder
1 (1 pound) package dry great northern, navy, or pink beans
Lots of water
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup molasses
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons salt, plus additional if desired
1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper, plus additional if desired
1 bay leaf
1 meaty ham bone (omit if using bacon)
4 slices thick-sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled (omit for ham bone)

12 ounces of bacon is too much; use 8 ounces instead.
I used low sodium chicken stock and a scant 1 tsp of salt and it still verged on too salty; using less bacon may help.
