Acura NSX May Add Convertible, Type R Variants
Rumors have circulated for years that a more hard-core NSX was coming, and a new report suggests it might arrive in 2019.
UPDATE 5/28/19: A new report from Forbes says that the long-rumored Acura NSX Type R will arrive this fall at the 2019 Tokyo auto show with somewhere around 650 horsepower. It speculates that the Type R will have a stiffer suspension, larger carbon-ceramic brakes, and additional aerodynamic elements along with the extra power. An Acura spokesperson told C/D that the company currently has no announcements about the NSX's future, and said "the original article published on the Forbes contributor network was speculative and did not contain information on sourcing."
Acura desperately wants its new NSX to be taken seriously in the supercar realm, and one measly variant won’t do when Porsche offers upwards of 20 versions of the 911. To that end, both a convertible NSX and a track-ready NSX Type R (illustrated above) might be in the cards, according to a report in Autocar.
This info comes straight from NSX development engineer Nick Robinson, who told Autocar that Honda wants to create a lightweight, hardcore NSX to live up to the hallowed “Type R” badge. This reportedly would involve a use of more exotic materials to cut weight, possible active aerodynamics, and even a reworked drivetrain that could make the car rear-wheel drive.

McLaren GT Supercar Debuts May 15 - New Photos of the Grand Tourer
CEO Mike Flewitt announced the new model at the Geneva auto show and said it will share DNA with the Speedtail.
New McLaren "Grand Tourer" announced at the Geneva auto show.
It will share DNA with the three-seater Speedtail hypercar when it launches later this year.
The new car won't fit into the existing McLaren model hierarchy.
UPDATE 5/7/19: Today McLaren announced that its new supercar, which it is now just calling the GT, will make its full debut on May 15. The brand also released the first teaser photos and video of its new car without camouflage, albeit in a dark and moody studio. (We took the liberty of enhancing and brightening up the images.) This gives us a close-up look at the air intakes, rear end, lights, and some other details of the GT.

2020 McLaren GT Supercar – Details, Specs, Pricing, Release Date
McLaren's newest supercar doesn't fit into its existing model hierarchy.
The mid-engined McLaren GT, which was first announced in March at the Geneva auto show, is a new model aimed at classic front-engined grand tourers.
The GT is a pure two-seater on a modified version of the Monocell-T carbon-fiber tub, but it still boasts nearly 15 cubic feet of rear storage space.
McLaren quotes a 3.1-second zero-to-60-mph time, a 9.0-second zero-to-124-mph time, and a 203-mph top speed.
England's posher automakers seem to be engaged in an artillery duel. Recently, Aston Martin has announced plans to launch two mid-engined supercars clearly aimed at Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren, as previewed by the AM-RB 003 and Vanquish concepts. Now McLaren seems to be getting its retaliation in first with a car whose luxurious mission is implicit within its name: the GT.
Of course, McLaren has used GT branding before, but the outgoing 570GT was a member of the brand’s entry Sports Series. The new GT—which stands for Grand Tourer—is a model in its own right, and McLaren says it doesn't fit into the existing model hierarchy of Sports, Super, and Ultimate Series. We’re promised it will offer unprecedented levels of both practicality and comfort, despite having a mid-mounted powerplant in a part of the market where cars traditionally stow their engines up front.

Genesis Mint Concept - Two-Seat Electric City Car
The cargo area is accessed via two reverse-opening scissor doors.
Genesis's new Mint concept is a two-door electric city car that the brand would like to see enter production in the future.
The cargo space is accessed by two reverse-opening scissor doors on the sides of the car.
The interior features a bench seat and minimal instrumentation.
Genesis thinks it's time to break the luxury-car mold, and it's doing so with a new concept car that has made its debut at the New York auto show. Called the Mint—the name comes from the car's bright matte Hunter Green paint—it's a two-seat, two-door electric city car that's a little hard to figure out. At a preview event in New York City ahead of the Mint's unveiling, we got to get up close with the car and learn more about it from Genesis's executive vice president, Manfred Fitzgerald, and Hyundai's global head of design, SangYup Lee.
Fitzgerald says that the luxurious city car segment is "a white spot on the map for OEMs," one that the Mint looks to fill. It purposely doesn't fit into the typical model hierarchy; luxury in the automotive world has typically been about "size does matter," but Genesis wants to think differently. "We don't want 'Big car is expensive, small car is cheaper.' We want each car to have its own character," Lee explains.
With the Mint, Genesis is asking, "Can small be luxurious?" and hoping that the public responds with a resounding "Yes."

2019 Porsche 911 Speedster – Price, Release Date, Special Edition
Fewer than 2000 lucky Porsche fanatics will get their gloved hands on this send-off for the 991.2 that's essentially a chop-top 911 R.
This is the final production version of the 911 Speedster, a send-off for the 991.2 generation of Porsche's iconic 911 sports car.
After seeing the car in concept form, we now know how much it will cost and what engine it uses: a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six.
Orders for the 1948 copies of the Speedster open May 7, and we don't yet know how many of those will come to the U.S.
In keeping with Porsche's recent tradition, the company will send off the 991.2 version of its 911 with a limited-production special model sure to send the brand's fans into a tizzy. At the end of the previous generation, the world was gifted the splendid and slightly retro 911 R. This time Porsche has dusted off one of its old favorite names and slapped it atop what promises to be yet another splendid and slightly retro send-off: the 2019 911 Speedster.
In fact, if you were to think of the 911 Speedster as a chop-top 911 R, you wouldn't be far from the truth. As with the R, the Speedster is powered by a version of the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six. In the Speedster, it makes 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque and, says Porsche, is fitted with individual throttle bodies to sharpen the already quite pointy throttle response. And, yes, it revs to 9000 rpm. It's backed, as the 911 R was, by a six-speed manual gearbox instead of the seven-speed manual found in other 911s. Who needs the tall fuel-economy gear in this car anyway? Plus, according to Porsche, the six-speed is nine pounds lighter than the seven-speed.

Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio NRING - Special Editions of the Giulia and Stelvio
The NRING package is available on both the Giulia Quadrifoglio and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
New NRING special edition for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio celebrate two Nürburgring records.
Just 110 cars total will come to the United States, split between Giulia and Stelvio.
The cars get matte gray paint and carbon-fiber accents.
Alfa Romeo has been dominating the Nürburgring Nordschleife recently. The Giulia Quadrifoglio sports sedan lays claim to being the fastest five-passenger car around the famed racetrack with a 7:32 lap time, and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the fastest SUV sold in the U.S. with a time of 7:51.7. (A Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S set a better time, but that SUV isn't available here.) To celebrate its success, Alfa Romeo has revealed NRING special editions of both Quadrifoglio models at the New York auto show. It's pretty easy to guess what the NRING name stands for.
If the cars look a bit familiar, it's because the NRINGs already were revealed for European audiences last year, and what we're getting is basically the same. Both cars get matte Circuito Gray paint that is offset by a carbon-fiber grille and side mirrors. The five-hole aluminum wheels are painted a dark gray, all the badging has been darkened, and the red brake calipers get white lettering. The Giulia's roof is carbon fiber, while the Stelvio has a panoramic glass roof.

The Jaguar I-Pace wins World Car of the Year, World Green Car awards | Ars Technica
We were among the panel of 86 international jurors for the annual award program.
NEW YORK—On Wednesday morning, the Jaguar I-Pace won this year's World Car of the Year award at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. It beat two other finalists, the Audi e-tron and Volvo's S60 and V60 twins to top honors, as voted by a panel of 86 journalists from around the world. Disclosure: for the second year in a row, I was one of those judges. We were asked to score each eligible car on a range of attributes, including safety, the environment, performance, design, and value, but only for vehicles we actually drove. You can see the list of eligible vehicles for this year's awards here. (Sorry, Tesla fans: the Model 3 is really rather good but went on sale too long ago to be considered for this year's awards.)
I'm not surprised that the I-Pace won; as a battery electric vehicle it scored highly on its green credentials, it's a joy to drive, and it looks stunning inside and out. Much of that can be said about the Volvos and the Audi, but if I had a place to charge it and I could afford one, the I-Pace would be my pick to replace our now-totaled Saabaru. (I don't, can't, and my wife gets to pick the next car anyway.)

Chevrolet Debuts 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels Edition for SEMA | News | Car and Driver
The Camaro was the first Hot Wheels car ever, and the partnership continues today.
The Chevrolet Camaro was the first Hot Wheels car when the brand began its journey back in 1968. Fifty years later, Chevrolet is keeping the partnership a two-way track. To honor the long-standing relationship (Mattel has made Hot Wheels models for just about every production Camaro), Chevrolet is releasing the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition.
About to make its debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, the new Hot Wheels muscle car arrives in a vibrant orange color called Crush, switching up from the blue that was seen on the 2013 Hot Wheels Edition Camaro and the chrome neon green Hot Wheels Camaro concept from 2011. For $4995, it can be added to any 2LT or 2SS coupe or convertible model.
There are no performance modifications to the Camaro, just new visuals. A set of 20-inch Satin Graphite forged aluminum wheels set the car up for its larger-than-life stance. They tie in with the Satin Graphite stripes that mimic a Hot Wheels track design and the Satin Graphite ground effects. Adding to the aggressive look, Chevrolet blackened the bow-tie emblems, the taillamps, and the trunk panel. Chrome inserts give the grille more flair, and orange brake calipers pop behind the dark wheels. The 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels fender badge on each side announces to everybody that this is not a typical Camaro.
Inside, there is more branding and badging. The headrests have an embossed image of a Camaro, and the steering wheel has a 50th-anniversary badge, as do the door sills. The black leather interior has orange seatbelts, inserts, and contrast stitching. “Ghost” stripes on the carpeted floor mats complete the theme inside.
The special editions can first be seen at Chevrolet’s SEMA stand between October 31 and November 3 alongside the Colorado ZR2 Night and Dusk Editions and the Centennial Edition Silverados and Colorados. They will become available for order in the first quarter of 2018.

Carbon-Bodied Dodge Demon With 1,203-HP Twin-Turbo V-8 Is Satan's Favorite Ride - The Drive
The engine sound alone will wake up the dead.
Tired of reading about what Tesla is up to or how many miles per gallon the world's newest plug-in hybrid can achieve? We've got you covered. Behold this twin-turbocharged Dodge Demon that's so stupidly loud and powerful, the engine noise alone could wake up the dead.
It's called the Speedkore Demon, and as we previously shared with you, it stole the hearts and wallets of muscle car aficionados at the 2018 SEMA show. While a previous video by Speedkore showed us the Demon's carbon fiber body and other goodies being developed, a new video recently released by That Racing Channel shows the bad boy getting manhandled by NHRA star and all-around badass Leah Pritchett.

Ranked: The 10 most exciting cars of the Geneva Motor Show 2019 | DriveTribe
Motor shows have had a bad wrap of late. Increasingly, they’re accused of being overly expensive and largely pointless. Manufacturers are reducing their efforts or not showing up at all, leaving shows like Paris at the tail end of last year with entire halls left empty.
But Geneva is different.
This is the biggest motor show in the world, and it’s still alive and well. It seems that everyone and their mums have brought along something new and exciting this year. There’s plenty of cutting-edge futuristic tech on display, as well as lots of really, really fast stuff. Of course, subjectively ranking newly revealed cars in order of ‘exciting-ness’ is an entirely pointless exercise. So... here's my list of the 10 most exciting cars from Geneva 2019.
Why is this the most exciting car at Geneva 2019? Surely it’s just another typically mad hypercar from those Swedish blokes who exclusively build mad hypercars. Business as usual, no? Sort of. Except this one is a bit special - because it could very well be the world's first 300mph roadcar.
That’s not confirmed yet. Christian Von Koenigsegg says the car has managed it in simulators, and he’s confident it will do it in real life. And this is not a man who makes unsubstantiated claims - this is the man behind the Agera RS - the current fastest car in the world.
So what’s new? Well, same old 5-litre twin-turbo V8 except it’s lighter now, and revs higher. Meaning you get 1,578bhp. And a massive wing. Oh, and it’s named after his dad, so it’s adorable as well as terrifying.

Aston Martin
Uploaded on Feb 27, 2019
In an unprecedented show of force, Aston Martin has chosen the 89th Geneva Motor Show to complete a trio of world debuts with the first glimpse of the breathtaking Vanquish Vision Concept.
A tantalising preview of Aston Martin’s first series production mid-engined supercar, the Vanquish Vision Concept showcases the design language of the marque’s most ambitious model, taking centre stage alongside the Project 003 and the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept.

Making sense of the new Aston Martin range | DriveTribe
I don't think anyone can argue that Aston Martin have been on fine form of late with the Valkyrie and the Valkyrie AMR Pro cars making petrolheads around the world simultaneously drool.
As if they weren't enough, Aston Martin have gone and dropped two new designs on us at this year's Geneva Motor Show and they follow in the same salivating trend.
Firstly, we had the AM-RB 003 revealed to us as a 'son of Valkyrie' style concept and this was quickly followed by the Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept as the first production mid-engined supercar from the brand.
Before we get into McLaren territory where we have 78 models released in 12 minutes, I wanted to quickly break down the four gorgeous Aston Martin mid-engined powerhouses into a nice neat order. You're welcome.

Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept Has Ferrari and McLaren in Its Sights
A bold new direction for the Vanquish, and we'd be surprised if it doesn't match its rivals' horsepower numbers.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Vision concept has the Ferrari F8 Tributo and the McLaren 720S firmly in its sights.
The concept is not built using a carbon-fiber tub like the hypercars from the same brand, but a bonded aluminum structure like front-engined models.
It will be powered by a new Aston Martin–developed turbocharged V-6 engine, which we will see first in the production version of the AM-RB 003.
The British like to joke that you spend ages waiting for a bus—doubtless in the rain—and then three turn up at once. It appears the same is true for mid-engined Aston Martins, with the company's revelation at the Geneva auto show that it is planning two separate new models to follow on from the work it began with the Valkyrie. The company's stand at the Swiss auto show contained a near-production version of the AM-RB 003, which, like the Valkyrie, is being co-developed with Red Bull Racing, and a further-out look at the slightly less rabid car that is set to become the new Vanquish.

Aston Martin AM-RB 003 Hypercar - New V-6 Hybrid Powertrain
The near-production prototype will get an Aston-developed turbo V-6 with hybrid assistance, the first in-house powerplant since the 1960s.
A mid-engined hypercar, the AM-RB 003 is a prototype with a production version expected in 2021.
The car gets flexible wing elements, aerospace industry style, so the rear wing's shape can be altered rapidly to adjust aerodynamic loads.
If you missed a chance to get the $3.2 million Valkyrie, this car will go (to about 50 buyers) for a mere $1.3 million or so.
If you just missed out on one of the 150 slots of the $3.2 million Aston Martin Valkyrie—the Adrian Newey fever dream with ambitions to be the world's fastest road car—then here is some consolation. The AM-RB 003, freshly unveiled in near-production form at the Geneva Auto Show, is another mid-engined hypercar being jointly developed by Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing. (Don't worry, the gawky code will be substituted for a more conventional name ahead of sales starting in 2021; if you’re wondering, 002 is the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro.) While it won't be quite as fast or extreme as the Valkyrie, a charge that can be leveled at any wheeled vehicle this side of an LMP1 racer, we're promised that the 003 will still be one of the quickest cars on the market.

Ferrari F8 Tributo – Returns the Mid-Engined Sports Car to Its Roots
Ferrari maintains its focus on technology and performance, but brings back some of its classic subjective delights.
Ferrari replaces the 488GTB with the F8 Tributo, a mid-engined, V-8–powered sports car.
As the name implies, it is a tribute to the automaker's lineage of mid-engined cars.
The F8 Tributo makes 710 hp from the same 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 used in the 488 Pista.
Maybe it's because every new Ferrari debuts in a scorching coat of red paint, or, maybe it is Ferrari's recent transition to gentle visual redesigns of its products that makes the new F8 Tributo appear, well, familiar. Is it that different from the 488GTB it replaces? Break out that zoom function in your browser or on your phone, look closer, and the F8 Tributo's familiar visage isn't quite what it seems.
The very literal name Ferrari has bestowed on its 488GTB replacement, F8 Tributo, is a hint as to what it's up to here. This is a return to form, on an optics level, for Ferrari's mid-engined eight-cylinder sports car, which experienced a hard break when the 458 Italia arrived in 2010. That car's form valued function over beauty, and it had two single round taillights instead of four; when it evolved into the 488GTB, Ferrari really let its hair down and turbocharged its V-8, an act of autoerotic suffocation that exploded the engine's power at the expense of the free-breathing noise we'd come to expect from Maranello's eights. It still had two taillights.

The 'Other' Hispano Suiza Returns With Wild Throwback Looks and 1,005 Electric HP
Well, this is an unusual outcome. Not only is very storied and very dead brand Hispano Suiza back, it’s so back there are two of them—two dueling companies laying claim to the same name with competing and vastly different concepts at the Geneva Motor Show. I think I prefer this one.
To recap, and I’ll try and keep this brief: Hispano Suiza was a Spanish ultra-luxury automobile manufacturer in the prewar years, and one with deep ties to aviation. Though it stopped making cars by the late 1930s, that name survives today in the aerospace world.
As Autocar deftly explained recently, there are now two car companies laying claim to the name today. There’s Hispano Suiza Automobilmanufaktur AG of Switzerland, which has been doing concept cars for the better part of this decade, and Hispano Suiza Cars of Spain, which claims lineage from the original company’s founders.
The former launched the striking but far more conventional Hispano Suiza Maguari HS1 GTC supercar recently, and the latter just launched this at Geneva. It’s called the Hispano Suiza Carmen, and it goes heavy on the Art Deco influences.

The Aston Martin AM-RB 003 and Vanquish Aim Right at Ferrari
The Geneva Motor Show is often a parade of supercars, a place for the robber barons and tech overlords who were just at Davos a month ago to cross some items of their shopping lists. And Aston Martin, long a purveyor of expensive GT and sports cars, is using Geneva to go hard on the mid-engine supercar market—and right after Ferrari and McLaren. With V6 power, no less.
Aston Martin had several key debuts at Geneva today, in addition to the wild V12 Aston Martin Valkyrie we’ve all known about for some time. First up with stuff today, there’s the Aston Martin AM-RB 003. If that name sounds familiar, it’s not far off what the Valkyrie was originally called.
This will be a limited-production hypercar that clearly draws design, tech, body and structure influence from the Valkyrie—think of the way McLaren does things—but ditches the V12 for a turbocharged hybrid V6 setup instead.
Aston Martin says it incorporates “concepts and technologies taken directly from F1 and applied to the epoch-making Aston Martin Valkyrie, providing it with performance to meet and surpass the performance demands of existing top-end hypercar rivals.” Neat!

The 30th Anniversary MX-5 is Already Sold Out
Just hours ago we told you about the Racing Orange MX-5 that Mazda debuted ahead of its official display at the Chicago Auto Show, and it’s already sold out. Only four hours after the deposit book opened, each and every one was accounted for.
The car is limited to just 3000 units worldwide, and only 500 of them well be sold here in the U.S. market. All 500 of those units are spoken for. That’s right, 500 Americans heeded our plea to buy more Miatas by placing a refundable $500 deposit for the limited Mazda roadster.
Pricing starts, or rather started, at $34,995 for a soft-top manual, or $37,595 for the RF, which seems like a lot of money until you read the amazing list of stuff the anniversary edition comes with. Aside from the bespoke color, the people who ordered one get Rays ZE40 RS30 wheels, Recaros, Bilsteins, Brembos, and Bose.
Damn, that’s a great color, too. I’m definitely going to get a little bit excited every time I see one of these on the street. Just like when I see a MKV GTI Fahrenheit and shout “FAHRENHEIT!” My wife rolls her eyes at my childish enthusiasm every time.

Masahiro Moro, president and CEO of MNAO, continues to cultivate lifelong Mazda fans | Inside Mazda
Celebrating 30 Years of the MX-5 Miata begins with celebrating our fans and their stories. We asked owners and enthusiasts from around the country to submit their MX-5 stories to celebrate the debut of the 30th Anniversary MX-5 Miata at the Chicago Auto Show.
In his more than 30-year tenure at Mazda Motor Corporation, Moro, now the president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations and senior managing executive officer of Mazda Motor Corporation, has spent his career serving in various marketing, sales and customer service capacities around the globe for Mazda, with the sole focus of making lifelong fans out of Mazda customers.
“Since its world debut 30 years ago, MX-5 Miata has one of the strongest fan-followings of any single car in our lineup,” Moro explained. “Across the four different generations of the MX-5, the fan base continues to grow in size and loyalty and it’s something we’re forever grateful for.”
“In the late ‘80s, it was all about having large, high-power sports cars,” Moro said. “MX-5 really broke that mold by being a lightweight roadster with exceptional driving dynamics. The amazing part is that over MX-5’s 30-year history, it’s stayed completely true to its roots.”
The latest generation MX-5 was designed around the driver, with great thought given to the slightest details. Pedals were optimized to fall in-line with the natural movement of the driver’s feet to help achieve greater comfort. The hood has been lowered, the windshield A-pillars pushed back and made more upright for greater visibility and the exterior paint color has been brought into the door panels – all to help provide a greater sensation of the world outside of the car.
