'Dark money' group with ties to Sheriff Paul Babeu launches
A week after Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu escorted GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson on a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border, a "dark money" group tied to the sheriff has launched to influence the 2016 elections by advocating for greater border security.

The Arizona Security and Prosperity Project, which Babeu will chair, is a non-profit group that under loosened campaign-finance rules is able to raise unlimited amounts of money from anonymous donors to spend on political causes and "educational" advocacy.

The organization is another sign of the widening circle of Babeu's political influence.

azcentral.com: Legislators try to entice donors
The Chicago Tribune ran a feature story on Sunday about fundraisers Congressional candidates are holding in DC and Chicago and includes a research from Sunlight's Party Time.

In recent weeks, with Congress in recess, much of the plate-passing has moved outside the Beltway. Lawmakers have been feted in tony spots stretching from Martha's Vineyard to Beverly Hills, according to the Sunlight Foundation, a pro-transparency group in Washington. For two years the group has collected and posted such invitations on its Web site, PARTY TIME. That has opened up these donors-only parties to greater scrutiny.

Arizona Republic: Details thin on stimulus contracts at Web site
Arizona Republic reposts USA Today story: Matt Kelley with USA Today writes about Recovery.gov, the Web site tasked with tracking the $787 billion stimulus bill. He reports that site won't have details on contracts and grants until October and may not be complete until next spring — halfway through the program. He quotes Greg saying people accustomed to getting easily searchable information quickly could be frustrated. "If we have to wait until October to get the information or to the end of the year to get a powerful recovery.gov site, the Obama administration will have missed an important opportunity."
