Back in 2008, Angela Guzman was a graphic design student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and an intern at Apple, where she joined the iPhone team and worked alongside another Apple designer, Raymond, to come up with the first 500 emoji characters that were available on the iPhone.

Apple's Cyclone Microarchitecture Detailed
The most challenging part of last year's iPhone 5s review was piecing together details about Apple's A7 without any internal Apple assistance. I had less than a week to turn the review around and limited access to tools (much less time to develop them on my own) to figure out what Apple had done to double CPU performance without scaling frequency. The end result was an (incorrect) assumption that Apple had simply evolved its first ARMv7 architecture (codename: Swift). Based on the limited infor...

We Tested iPhone Fast-Charging and You Should Definitely Upgrade Your Charger
Your iPhone can charge a lot faster than you thought. When Apple announced the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the company glossed over the fact that all three of its new handsets were capable of fast charging—similar to what Android phones have been doing for years. Even now, if you go the spec page for Apple’s latest phones, all you get is a single line saying fast charging can add up to a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes, but without getting a magnifying glass out and reading item 9 of the fine print, you would have no idea how you’re actually supposed to accomplish that.

The iPhone X wasn't supposed to come out this year
If the iPhone X feels like something out of the future, that’s because it is—sort of. Apple SVP of hardware engineering, Dan Riccio, opened up about the device in an interview with Mashable, revealing it was originally intended to be released as the company’s flagship in 2018.

How to use reachability on the iPhone X
One of Apple's biggest selling points for the new iPhone X is its gigantic screen — but for users with short fingers or small hands, that means actually being able to navigate the phone's 5.8-inch touch display could be a huge challenge.

How to Unlock the iPhone X When Lying in Bed
Face ID, the new face-scanning security camera introduced in the iPhone X, works pretty flawlessly most of the time. But there’s one place where Apple’s latest tech may be giving you trouble: in bed.

Here's What You'll Need to Pull Off Fast Charging on the iPhone X
One of Apple’s big new features for the iPhone X (and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus) is wireless charging, but if you care more about speed than convenience, there’s another perk you should know about. The company’s newest smartphones all support fast charging, too. Apple claims you can get from 0 to 50% charge in 30 minutes—just not with the charger that comes in the box.

Forking The iPhone – Monday Note
After the early fast growth iPhone years, Apple appeared to stumble. Profit and revenue began to fall starting in 2013. Now, a bold bet, the iPhone X, covered by the iPhone 8, appears on the verge of paying off.

Daring Fireball: Public Service Announcement: You Should Not Force Quit Apps on iOS
The single biggest misconception about iOS is that it’s good digital hygiene to force quit apps that you aren’t using. The idea is that apps in the background are locking up unnecessary RAM and consuming unnecessary CPU cycles, thus hurting performance and wasting battery life.

Tony Fadell Shares New Details on Prototype iPhone Software With Virtual iPod Clickwheel - Mac Rumors
According to Fadell, the longstanding story suggesting there were two teams at Apple (one led by Fadell and one led by Scott Forstall) competing with one another to develop the iPhone's OS isn't quite accurate. There were multiple UI possibilities being explored by both the hardware and the software teams, who were working together.

Original iPhone Prototype With iPod Click Wheel Surfaces Online - Mac Rumors
An early prototype of the original iPhone has been shared online by Sonny Dickson, with a collection of images and a video that provide a glimpse into one version of the iPhone that Apple created and tested before ending up with the first iteration of the device. The prototype includes some similar features to the first generation iPhone, like an aluminium chassis, multi-touch compatible screen, 2G connectivity and Wi-Fi, but its entire user interface is taken directly from the click wheel system of Apple's original iPod line.

Secure Rom extraction on iPhone 6s
Secure ROM, also knows as bootrom, is the very first piece of software that a CPU will run in order to get initialized, and run find a way to boot on the next stage. This same ROM, in a trusted environment, could verify the signature of the next stages it loads, in order to check its integrity. In the case of the iPhone, the Secure ROM loads iBoot and checks its signature. It would only run it if the signature is valid. iBoot will load the kernel and checks it signature, the kernel would load the apps and check their signature. The whole thing is called the chain of trust. If you can find a vulnerability in the kernel, and bypass the apps signature, you get a jailbreak, untill Apple fixes the kernel (iOS). If you can find a vulnerability in iBoot, and bypass the kernel signature check, you get to load any kernel you want which could then load any apps you want, untill Apple fixes the iBoot. If you find a vulnerability in the llb (low level boot) you can load any iBoot you want until Apple fixes llb. If you find a vuln in SecureROM, you can load any llb you want, which would load any iBoot you want, which would let you load any kernel you want and so on... and that.. Until... you get a new phone !!! :) In fact, the bootloader is part of the chip itself, it can not be fixed or modified. The last official bootloader that was dumped was the one of the iphone 4. It allowed to get limera1n. Still today, there is no way to fix it.
