The Tall, Cold Tale of the Big Gulp
The average American citizen will drink 44 gallons of soft drinks this year, and a good many of them will head off to the local 7-Eleven to fill up. In fact, 7-Eleven dispenses 38 million gallons of soda per annum. Why do so many of us wind up at 7-Eleven for a soda? Two reasons. The first is that 25 percent of us live within a mile of one of the stores.

The second, of course, is the Big Gulp.

YouTube Is Launching a New Creative Suite for Marketers to Make Better Ads – Adweek
The Creative Suite will focus on delivering insights for brands (with the Video Experiment and Video Creative Analytics tools) and storytelling (with its Director Mix and Video Ad Sequencing tools). The company said it is working with a number of agencies and brands including brands like 20th Century Fox (for The Greatest Showman) and Kellogg’s which have already started to use these tools.

Video Experiments will allow brands and agencies to test campaigns in real time to measure things like awareness, ad recall and purchase intent. The tools allow brands to make tweaks to the campaigns before the official launch to maximize the effectiveness of the creative. YouTube’s Brand Lift tool measures those analytics after a campaign has ended. YouTube realized it could help creatives prior or during a campaign if it could extend those capabilities to creatives earlier in the process.

How Brands Are Justifying an Increased Need for Consumer Data – Adweek
With other situations, the value is convenience. The new Amazon Go stores may enable you to purchase without waiting in line, but the price for that convenience is having hundreds of in-store cameras take your picture thousands of times in order to record what you place in your cart. This level of retail surveillance may be worth it if the value of the convenience is big enough. Though the question remains: Where is that data stored, and how else is it being used to profile people and retarget messaging?
