Google Custom Search: New Google APIs Console features a new Custom Search API
Today, we announced the Google APIs console, a new tool to help you use our product APIs in your applications and on your websites. Included in the console is a new Custom Search API.

We’ve enhanced our Custom Search offering with the introduction of new output formats and a new API. Now, in addition to using the Custom Search element or the XML API, the new API offers search results using your choice of Atom or JSON syndication formats. For more information, please refer to our post on the Google Code blog.

Customizing Your Result Snippets - Google Custom Search API - Google Code
PageMaps
PageMaps is a structured data format that Google created to enable website creators to embed data and notes in their webpages. Although the structured data is not visible to your users or to Google Search, Custom Search recognizes it when indexing your webpages and returns it with the XML results.
Unlike other structured data formats, PageMaps does not require you to follow standard properties or terms, or even refer to an existing vocabulary, schema, or template. You can just create custom attribute values that make sense for your website. Another difference is that you add microformat and RDFa attributes around existing content in the body of the HTML, but you create PageMaps metadata in the head section of the HTML page.

IFrame Result Width - Custom Search Help
Another solution is to force an NAN error in the javascript like so:

<style type="text/css">
#cse-search-results iframe {
width: 600px;
}
</style>
<div id="cse-search-results"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var googleSearchIframeName = "cse-search-results";
var googleSearchFormName = "cse-search-box";
var googleSearchFrameWidth = '100%';
var googleSearchDomain = "www.google.com";
var googleSearchPath = "/cse";
</script>

The 100% value gives the width as NAN in the DOM and the browser will fall back to the style defined above.

How to make Google Custom Search Element open links in same window? - Custom Search Help
We've just finished the documentation for the custom search control, on which the Custom Search element is based. You can find it here:
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/documentation/customsearch/index.html

Since this extends the Search Control, the method that solves this problem can be found in the base class's docs:
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/documentation/reference.html#_class_GSearchControl

Specifically, .setLinkTarget() is used to control where the results open. First, you need to modify your code a bit so that you can refer to the CustomSearchControl you create:
var myCSC = new google.search.CustomSearchControl('xxx.xxx');
myCSC.draw('cse');

Now you can use setLinkTarget() to make results open in the same window:
myCSC.setLinkTarget(google.search.Search.LINK_TARGET_SELF);

This should take care of your problem!

Gracefully Degrade the Google Custom Search Form So That It Works Without Javascript - Chris Roos
It struck me a couple of nights ago that it wasn’t possible to search my site without Javascript, because of Google Custom Search’s reliance on Javascript. I’m not sure whether I just overlooked the fact or whether I’d realised that it was bad and ignored it. Either way, I decided it was time to do something about it. I stripped out the google custom search form and replaced it with a form that actually searches the google index of my site.
