100 Days of WTF Just Happened Today?
At the 100 day mark of this presidency, here’s my situation:

My Twitter consumption has returned to normal levels. I no longer read every single tweet looking for the next 140 words that are going to piss me off.

My ACLU donation is now recurring.

I know a lot more about the Federal Budget because I read a lot more of the Washington Post .

I’m going to reprint this shirt with the proceeds going to the ACLU .

I’m still off Facebook.

The daily rage is gone. The disbelief is steady. The continued need to act is strong.

My constant companion in the past 100 days has been What the Fuck Just Happened Today? Don’t let the crass title fool you. The site is the best daily collection of the news out there. My favorite feature: the site is currently run by one guy. Matt Kiser is both reading the news and hand picking the stories you need to read. Each day has a title. Usually one word, sometimes more.

The bottom of this post has the complete list of titles from Matt’s site. Reading through those words will remind you of the sheer amount of WTF we’ve experienced in this last 100 days.

Matt’s running the site as his full-time job and today is the last day of his pledge drive . One guy and a website. Informing the electorate. I don’t know Matt, but I appreciate him every single day.

Flags, street art and spectators show troubled cycling has not lost its appeal following an annus horribilis of inquiries, revelations, scandals and investigations

The people of Yorkshire are early risers. By half past eight on Saturday morning cycling fans were already packing the cafes of Knaresborough, at least one of which had extended its opening hours to cater for the influx. By nine, when the women’s Tour de Yorkshire was flagged off in Tadcaster, 15 miles distant, the best seats in the coffee shop in front of the big screen in the market place had been bagged and the little town on the river Nidd was preparing for a long day celebrating all things two-wheeled.

Alongside posters in the shops plugging an evening with Gary Lineker, the local WI, and the Pickering Game and Country Fair, flyers were promoting a full day’s music and entertainment for Tour watchers: the big screen, street art, children’s rides and a vintage cycle display. Not to mention the town crier, who welcomed spectators on behalf of the Rotary Club, and Welcome to Yorkshire, concluding with a sonorous “God Save the Queen”.

Dieter Rams’ classic design principles updated for the tech industry
Dieter Rams, the legendary designer, came up with a now-famous list of Ten Principles for Good Design. Among them:

Good design makes a product understandable. It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product talk. At best, it is self-explanatory.

Recently, designer Tobias Van Schneider posted a tongue-in-cheek update of Rams’ list, the 2017 Tech Industry edition.

1. Good design is disruptive.
2. Good design makes a product addicting.
3. Good design is A/B testing.
4. Good design makes a product collect data.
5. Good design is notifications.
6. Good design is agreeing to the terms & conditions.
7. Good design is temporary.
8. Good design is a prototype.
9. Good design is a chatbot?
10. Good design is pleasing your shareholders.
