2017 Audi R8 | In-Depth Model Review | Car and Driver
Ten cylinders of brutish power and a body to match.
It looks great, sounds fantastic, and goes like an autobahn bullet. The Audi R8 is almost everything you could want from a supercar, all of it wrapped in a comfortable, dead-sexy package that can easily be driven on a daily basis. Are there downsides? Sure. For one, it’s a two-seater, so passenger space is limited. Is it fuel efficient? Nope. It also doesn’t have the same thrilling, razor’s-edge handling of some of its supercar rivals. What the R8 does well, however, is provide surprising comfort along with its ballistic speed. That may outweigh its flaws for some buyers, and—let’s face it—this is Iron Man’s car. Deep down, don’t we all want to be a superhero with a sweet ride?
Supercar appearance, simple but stylish cabin, intoxicating V-10.
Gas-swilling powertrain, limited trunk space, less-than-supercar handling.
Supercar looks and speed meet luxury-car comfort.

Nogaro Blue is a heritage color for Audi Sport (the former Quattro division), ever since the first RS model, the Porsche-engineered RS2 Avant, wore this signature hue. Now the brand is launching the awesome RS6 Avant in a special Nogaro Edition that boasts more than just a special paint color. Unfortunately, it won’t be offered in the United States.
The RS6 Avant, after all, is a station wagon, and U.S. customers have made it abundantly clear that they prefer their performance cars with conventional sedan bodies. Or, even better, in the form of jacked-up SUVs with a lofty center of gravity and the drag coefficient of a barn—but we digress.

Audi wants to turn its AR app into a personal showroom - Digiday
The app, which was introduced in key markets excluding the U.S. at the start of February, lets users view one of four Audi Quattro models on their device, in miniature form or actual size, making the cars appear in their own living room or anywhere else. The same AR feature lets people create a personalized test track so they can test drive the Quattro cars from the app.

Ever since its introduction early this decade, the Audi A7 has brought credibility to the “four-door coupe” concept, thanks to the car’s winning combination of luxurious refinement and sporting character wrapped in some particularly fetching sheetmetal. For its follow-up effort, the A7 grows (arguably) even more handsome, but there are greater changes underneath its freshly pressed skin.
Lusty powertrain, dazzling interior, devilishly handsome.
All-touchscreen interface, self-steering could use some work, Americans are denied some high-tech toys.

Finally, a TT with teeth!
When it comes to the indecipherable alphabet soup of modern-day vehicle naming conventions, a few model designators are generally true: X is for SUV, R is for racy, S is for sporty, and RS is for Audis that have been tuned and tweaked beyond all boundaries of reason. The newest entrant to this exclusive club is the Audi TT RS, a 400-hp version of the small, sleek, and stylish TT sports car. This model comes with a hyperactive turbocharged inline-five-cylinder engine, a lightning-fast seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive that together deliver brain-scrambling off-the-line acceleration and similarly gratifying passing runs. Its hatchback body means that there’s plenty of room for cargo, especially when the useless rear seats are folded flat for maximum efficiency. Although the TT RS accelerates like a Roman candle and sticks to the road as if its tires were dipped in Gorilla Glue, other cars in this class—such as the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and Porsche 718 Cayman S—are more communicative, sharper-handling, or both. But the TT RS brings raw power and some likable rough edges to the otherwise somewhat dispassionate TT model lineup. It’s the TT for the wannabe racing driver.
Unusual and alluring powertrain, innovative infotainment solution, speed, speed, and more speed.
Missing coveted premium features, not as communicative as some competitors.
Big power and awesome speed make it an alternative to the greats in this class, but it’s still not the all-around champ.

In this cuckoo-crazy, mixed-up world, nothing is certain and the set order is up for renegotiation. For decades, the four-door sedan was the sensible choice, the vehicle that sober, serious grown-up types bought to show just how sober and serious they really were. But crossovers have toppled the establishment, and now four-doors are struggling to retain relevance. So squash the roofs, pack in the tech, add a practical hatch for the camping equipment, and voilà—the sedan is king again. Only now they’re four-door coupes. Got it?
The quasi-coupes under examination today are Audi’s A5 Sportback and BMW’s 430i xDrive Gran Coupe, with the Kia Stinger here to do its own renegotiating of the set order. The Audi and BMW lead with, and are enabled by, their heritage. They’re tweaked expressions of long-established brand identities. Kia is relatively new to the premium realm and has yet to produce a hit there. The Stinger could be it.

The Big Three German Automakers Are Becoming More and More Alike | Feature | Car and Driver
Once distinct, the cars of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are increasingly borrowing the brand character of the others.
Automakers have long believed that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Yet an etymological investigation into the origins of this well-worn phrase reveals that the literal translation is even more apt. What the poet Ovid actually wrote in The Art of Love—basically a how-to guide for putative Roman pickup artists—was “fertilior seges est alienis semper in agris,” or, “the crop is always greater in the lands of another.” Which neatly summarizes the financial motivation behind the me-too mentality that has sent Audi, BMW, and Mercedes chasing one another’s tails—and sometimes sniffing one another’s butts.
It hasn’t been long since the three luxury automakers’ portfolios were as distinct from one another as the numerous different types of German sausage. BMW produced the archetypal sports sedan, keen and responsive if short on practicality. Mercs felt and often drove like bank vaults, a perceived solidity that continued even when the brand went through its quality nadir in the early naughties—an era that proved it was possible to make a door that would thunk even when filled with rust holes. Audi was technical and slightly aloof, delivering grip and performance without a huge amount of that distracting driver-involvement stuff. Each carmaker had its fans and its own carefully guarded place in the world.

2018 Audi S5 Coupe and Cabriolet | In-Depth Model Review | Car and Driver
Ingolstadt's entry-level performance coupe and convertible are long on speed, short on driver involvement.
The Audi S5 coupe and convertible are two-door counterparts to the more practical but dowdier S4 sedan, and they offer impressive performance in a slinky uniform. (The new, high-style S5 Sportback is reviewed separately.) All S5s are motivated by Audi’s new turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine, which makes a comfortable 354 horsepower and provides the S5 with plenty of get-up-and-haul. The previously available manual transmission is no more, and power is now routed to all four wheels exclusively through a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. Both the coupe and convertible—Audi calls it a cabriolet—exhibit driving characteristics similar to those of their four-door siblings: they are surprisingly detached for such powerful, sporting cars. In day-to-day driving, the S5’s comfortable cabins and great-looking exteriors are enough to push their vacant personae to the wayside. However, when back roads beckon, the S5 twins fail to communicate well with the road; a number of their competitors are much better at truly engaging the driver.
Fantastic looks, comfortable ride, quality interior.
Unengaging handling, somewhat cramped rear seat.
Good looks, a powerful engine, and gobs of grip can’t make up for a curiously detached driving experience.

We’re losing the special engines. They don’t make sense. Used to be, when you bought a dedicated performance model, there was a whole different animal under the hood—a V-10 in a 5-series or a 7000-rpm 7.0-liter in a Corvette. Nowadays, you just slap on a supercharger or dial up the boost on your turbos and call it a day. The cars are faster, sure, but it’s hard to brag to your friends about your model-specific intake manifold. Remember when the M3 had a V-8? That was awesome.

ABT Sportsline Unleashes 530-HP Audi RS5-R | News | Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog
For ABT, customizing a car is as easy as 1, 2, 3. The German tuner-car specialist just announced completion of its newest project, the RS5-R, an upgraded version of the already hot Audi RS5. It comes with a big power bump, suspension modifications, extra splashes of carbon fiber, and beefy exhaust outlets, among other enhancements. The most significant improvements are under the hood. ABT Sportsline massaged the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 to produce 530 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque, up from 450 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. ABT claims that’s good for a 3.6-second sprint from zero to 62 mph.

Very clever lights and driverless tech—but both subject to regulatory approval.
DETROIT—It's fair to say that this year's North American International Auto Show has been a little lackluster. But one of the standouts was the North American debut of the new Audi A7. The previous model was—to my eyes—Audi's best-looking model, and I was worried that its successor wouldn't live up. Happily, that isn't the case.
But the new A7 is not just a pretty face; under the skin, you'll find almost all the same technology that Audi is packing into its A8 flagship sedan. That means class-leading infotainment and—once regulators are happy—some seriously advanced headlights and level 3 autonomous driving
At this point, my love for the sportback body style is well-documented. You get the convenience of four doors and a hatchback with almost all the elegance of a coupe—little wonder that Tesla decided upon sportback styling for the Model S.
The new A7's styling was first signaled in the Prologue concept of 2014, but the production car may look even better. It's low and wide, with flared rear-wheel arches that are meant to call back to the bulging extensions that adorned the Sport Quattro of the 1980s.

2018 Audi RS4 Avant First Drive | Review | Car and Driver
Another hot-as-hell station wagon we want in our garage.
Some of Europe’s most enticing cars don’t ever make it to the United States, and the Audi RS4 Avant is likely to remain one of them. Due to Americans’ aversion toward station wagons, Audi has decided not to send it here, although we get parts of it divided between the mechanically similar RS5 coupe and the four-cylinder A4 Allroad, an A4 Avant that uses a raised suspension and plastic body cladding to cosplay as a crossover.
Relentless acceleration, lofty top speed, precise chassis.
Not coming to America.
