3D-Printed Rotary Dial Keypad Is Wonderfully Useless | Hackaday
ight up front, let us stipulate that we are not making fun of this project. Even its maker admits that it has no practical purpose. But this 3D-printed Commodore-style rotary dial keypad fails to be practical on so many levels that it’s worth celebrating.

And indeed, celebrating deprecated technology appears to be what [Jan Derogee] had in mind with this build.

Rotary dial numpad
So now I was asking myself "wouldn't it be possible to make such a mechnism with a 3D printer, sure, but how to keep it simple, how to prevent using parts that are difficult to obtain". I want to make a design that anybody all over the world can make. A simple DC motor instead of a spring perhaps, a camwheel and some microswitches? But the most important thing perhaps is that it must feel like an old rotary dial. It should gracefully turn back to the idle position at the exact same moment the user releases the dialplate. And it should only generate pulses when the dial is returning to the idle position. And without the use of modern electronics. Preferably, semiconductors are completely to be avoided.

A Modular Mounting System Via 3D Printing | Hackaday
When working with cameras or other tools, it can often be useful to have some manner of stand or tripod to hold things in position, freeing up one’s hands for other tasks. Unfortunately, when it comes to smaller cameras and devices like smartphones and tablets, there are few standardized solutions. [yyh1002] has skirted the problem by creating a customizable modular mounting system, and it’s taken the 3D-printing world by storm.

The system was inspired by GoPro mounts, which are a system of plastic arms and screws that can effectively position the small devices in all manner of orientations. [yyh1002]’s system is GoPro-compatible, using the same fasteners and similar geometry, and tons of other modelers have added on.

Digicomp I by markz - Thingiverse
This is a work in progress of a 3d printed recreation of the DIgicomp I, a three-bit computer from the 60's. Thanks to the members of the FriendsOfDigiComp Yahoo group for their help, and their preservation of details about this device, including drawings, photos and manuals. And of course, thanks to ESR, for their genius in creating this product way back when...

Light Dimming Robot Finger
The lights in the office have a mind of their own. Several times each day at seemingly random intervals and without warning the lights go to maximum brightness. The secondary problem is that the light switch is several feet from my desk. So I decided to solve the problem the way I try to solve most of my problems – with a custom designed remote controlled robot finger on wifi.

Repurpose Optical Drive With RPi
This project came about after my beloved laptop's optical drive started to misbehave. Removing the tray meant I had a large hole in the side of my computer so I needed to fill it with something. I had seen that you could buy bays that you can slot a second hard drive into for your laptop. I didn't really have the need for that so instead, I went about designing and 3D printing a replacement blank part with the same dimensions as the original dive, with a space that I could fit passport sized notebook that I kept all my project ideas in.

Servo bracket to control a U.S. wall switch by tkbletsc - Thingiverse
This bracket allows you to mount a standard cheap servo next to a light switch so that you can control the switch from an Arduino or something. This is nice because it requires no direct interfacing with high-voltage AC, slots onto an existing switch easily, and doesn't prevent manual operation of the switch.

3D printed, motion controlled camera gimbal @ eStuffz
I am setting out to do timelapse experiments so I need some hardware. In particular, a motion controlled camera pan & tilt head on a track. Yes, I could buy it, but where's the fun in that? So, I designed the whole thing to come off the 3D printer and plug straight together without further ado.
