Vintage Inspired | Retro Christmas Decor
This year, I was was deliberate about my Christmas decor. Only because I had so little of it. We are in the process of finding out if we are going to purchase a 1961 mid century modern home. It's been a long process. Darn bank owned properties. We didn't do much decorating for Christmas this year because of the limbo.

Our tree is a 6-year-old outdoor tree. We really wanted another pink flocked tree, but our flocked tree seller guy was nowhere to be found. I think the tree still turned out rather cheerful and retro.

Wrapping paper is one of my favorite purchases during the holidays. I found this super kitschy paper at Marshalls! What I love about buyng paper at Marshalls, which I do every year, is that the quality of paper is far superior to bulk packaged gift wrapping kits. This stuff is STRONG! Originally $7.99 a roll - you know it's high end stuff. I also bought my vintage fashion inspired Christmas cards at Marshalls.

Little details like ornaments and gift wrapping paper really get me in the Christmas spirit.

I hope you found joyful little holiday details to share with friends and family this season.

Near Side — Infoplease.com
Near Side and Off Side. Left side and right side. “Near wheel” means that to the coachman's left hand; and “near horse” (in a pair) means that to the left hand of the driver. In a four-in-hand the two horses on the left side of the coachman are the near wheeler and the near leader. Those on the right hand side of the coachman are “off horses.” This, which seems an anomaly, arose when the driver walked beside his team. The teamster always walks with his right arm nearest the horse, and therefore, in a pair of horses, the horse on the left side is nearer than the one on his right. -- Source: Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, E. Cobham Brewer, 1894 -- A yahoo.com user says to think of the steering wheel as a big O for off side.

Who wants to marry a Victorian?
Advice for the Young Bride circa 1894 "To the sensitive young woman who has had the benefits of proper upbringing, the wedding day is, ironically, both the happiest and most terrifying day of her life. On the positive side, there is the wedding itself, in which the bride is the central attraction in a beautiful and inspiring ceremony, symbolizing her triumph in securing a male to provide for all her needs for the rest of her life. On the negative side, there is the wedding night, during which the bride must pay the piper, so to speak, by facing for the first time the terrible experience of sex."
