Victor Effing Nikiforov
(One Shot, R, Yuuri/Victor/Yuuri) AU in which Yuuri still doesn’t remember the banquet, somehow doesn’t blow Japanese Nationals, runs into Victor at the World Championships, and has absolutely no idea why his idol is suddenly friendly and incredibly handsy.

Does Yuuri care about his reasons? No. It’s Victor Effing Nikiforov.

Introduction to visualising spatial data in R [PDF]
This tutorial is an introduction to analysing spatial data in R, specifically through map-making with R’s
‘base’ graphics and various dedicated map-making packages for R including tmap and leaflet. It teaches
the basics of using R as a fast, user-friendly and extremely powerful command-line Geographic Information
System (GIS).

Packages to simplify mapping in R (Revolutions)
sf, a package that provides simple data structures for objects representing spatial geometries including map features like borders and rivers
tmap and tmaptools, packages for creating static and interactive "thematic maps" like choropleths and spatial point maps using a ggplot2-like syntax
tigris, a package that provides shapefiles you can use to map the USA and its states, counties, and census tracts (very useful for visualizing US census data, which you can easily obtain with the tidycensus package)
rio, a package to streamline the import of flat files from third-party data sources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Introduction to Spatial Data Types in R
The sf package
The second package, first released on CRAN in late October 2016, is called sf3. It implements a formal standard called “Simple Features” that specifies a storage and access model of spatial geometries (point, line, polygon). A feature geometry is called simple when it consists of points connected by straight line pieces, and does not intersect itself. This standard has been adopted widely, not only by spatial databases such as PostGIS, but also more recent standards such as GeoJSON.

If you work with PostGis or GeoJSON you may have come across the WKT (well-known text) format, for example like these:

The R Formula Method: The Good Parts · R Views
The formula interface to symbolically specify blocks of data is ubiquitous in R. It is commonly used to generate design matrices for modeling function (e.g. lm). In traditional linear model statistics, the design matrix is the two-dimensional representation of the predictor set where instances of data are in rows and variable attributes are in columns (a.k.a. the X matrix).
