What's this thing about Trump Administration separating children from their parents i keep hearing about? ------good reddit answer and economist link----- During the Obama & Bush years, the practice of these administrations was to do something called "family detention," where asylum seekers and other immigrants arriving together as families were housed in facilities together until their cases were resolved in some way. That might mean the families were deported or they might be given temporary status while their cases wended their way through the immigration and/or asylum processes. Enter the Trump administration. Trump campaigned on hard line immigration policies, and in the service of those campaign promises, John Kelly, his current Chief of Staff, who was formerly the director of Homeland Security, floated a policy of 100% child separation as a means of deterrence for both illegal border crossers and legal asylum seekers. Jeff Sessions, the current US Attorney General, announced this new policy several weeks ago. Now the practice is to separate families from their children regardless of disposition or the status of their case. If you get caught crossing the Rio Grande in the dead of night or present yourself as an asylum seeker at a border checkpoint, your kid(s) will be removed from you. Due to the trauma of child separation under any circumstance, the ACLU and international community have criticized this policy being used indiscriminately. It's traumatic for children to be separated from their parents due to laws being broken, but it seems unnecessarily cruel to also apply this policy to people legally seeking asylum under international law. This policy is also creating a detention crisis. Children are living in housing originally meant for a maximum of 72 hours of detention while they wait for placement in larger facilities. Already out of room in the larger facilities, the US is seeking to detain these children in military bases. It's important to understand that some people have been confusing this child separation policy with the "1500 missing kids" that "ICE" supposedly "lost." That is a separate issue. Those children arrived as unaccompanied minors and are usually placed by the Office of Refugee Resettlement with a family member or approved sponsor already living in the United States. The ORR decided to check up on these kids with a phone call to verify that they were still living with their sponsor or family member and were not able to contact 1500 of 7000 children placed. This is the first time, as far as I know, that they've ever tried to contact or follow up on their placements, so it's unknown whether this is unusual or not.

Facebook launches Fb.gg gaming video hub to compete with Twitch | TechCrunch
Facebook wants a cut of the 3+ hours per week that young adult video gamers spend watching other people play. So today it launched Fb.gg — as in the post-competition courtesy of saying “good game” — a destination where viewers can find a collection of all the video games streaming on Facebook. Fb.gg will show video based on the games and streaming celebrities they follow, their Liked Pages and Groups, plus it will display featured creators, esports competitions and gaming conference events.

Serverless WebRTC Chat on IPFS
So we're going to build a little chat application that combines a couple of interesting Web technologies. First, if you don't already know, this site is hosted on ipfs. That means the "servers" hosting it are distributed across a wide network. At the time of this posting my local ipfs daemon is connected to 808 peers.

South Africa: Zuma's Second Coming to Court and the Struggle for ANC KZN's Future - allAfrica.com
South Africa:Zuma's Second Coming to Court and the Struggle for ANC KZN's Future June 8, 2018 at 05:40AM https://ift.tt/2Hwayk8 [Daily Maverick] Over the last few years, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has been torn apart and driven into to the ground by the Jacob Zuma-esque effect on its political dynamics. This weekend, they will again try to pick up and put together the pieces and rebuild the once mighty ANC provincial force by re-running their ANC conference and trying to elect legitimate leaders. But the Zuma factor lingers - overshadowing any attempt, or chance, of success in starting with a clean slate. via AllAfrica News: Corruption https://ift.tt/1gyXdJ7
