Effect of grow light colour on plants - E&T News
"the most exciting thing about LED is that it gives growers control over the kind of light that the plant is exposed to. As it turns out, plant growth is especially benefited by light in the blue or red part of the spectrum. LEDs can be designed to specifically generate more of this kind of light, which is especially useful for growing plants.

....For instance, if you expose the plant to more blue light, this produces a plant with thicker leaves. It can also turn on the pathways for secondary benefits such as a plant which contains more antioxidants.”

Mattson describes cutting-edge research which looks at how different light wavelengths mean you can get taller or shorter plants, earlier flowering, or impact nutritional value. His current research has found that “lighting treatments can double the amount of vitamin C found in a tomato”, for instance."

Gyllene legender – Legenda aurea

What African Philosophy Can Teach You About the Good Life » IAI TV
Modern African philosophy continues to be animated by philosophy as a guide to the good life. In the mid-1970s, the Kenyan philosopher Odera Oruka undertook a ‘Sage Philosophy Project’ for which he interviewed sages – people designated as wise in various African communities – on metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and philosophy of religion. Oruka highlights strikingly critical, self-reflective practices of thought flourishing in societies often caricatured in the North Atlantic world as lacking abstract, second-order thinking.

But in one of his interviews, for instance, Njeru wa Kanyenje, a sage from the Aembu community in central Kenya, pushed back against religious beliefs and ways of life: “I do not care much about God or religion. Right from the beginning, that is, when the muzungu [white people] first brought organized religion, I saw religion as a bluff. It is a white man’s witchcraft! But this witchcraft has today triumphed over the traditional African witchcraft. Today, I recognise its victory but not its truth. It is still a bluff. I do not pray to God nor do I consult witchdoctors. Both religion and witchcraft are bluffs. They have no truths in them. My great wish is that I should be spared the interference from religions and witchcrafts.”

9/11 Toxic Air Was Initially Met With Skepticism (VIDEO)
Seventeen years after 9/11, the CDC reports that almost 10,000 first responders and survivors have been diagnosed with cancer. Nearly 3,000 people died during the attack and some outlets report that "Deaths from 9/11 diseases will soon outnumber those lost on that fateful day."

Bridget Gormley lost her firefighter father years after 9/11. He died of 9/11 related cancer. She said, "It sounds a bit morbid when I say this, but if you think about it, it was the perfect terrorist attack because you killed so many people that day, but not only that. Now you have this lasting effect that's going. And it's going to be multi-generations. There are kids that are being born with issues now, too."

FBI employees grapple with 9/11-related illnesses, deaths
For hundreds of FBI employees and their families, the anniversary of 9/11 magnifies anxieties that haunt them to this day.

FBI first responders and those involved in the investigation of the worst terror attack in U.S. history continue to be diagnosed with life-threatening diseases. The FBI, doctors and health experts say toxic exposure from fumes, dust and chemicals at the crash sites are the likely cause.

As of the 17th anniversary of the attacks on Tuesday, 15 FBI agents have died from cancers linked to their roles in the 9/11 investigation. Three of them have died in just the last six months.
