Bernardo Bertolucci, Nicolas Roeg, And the Problem With Obituaries | Observer
I've been thinking a lot about the problems with Obituaries and the desperate, pressing need for context. New column! https://t.co/RLwMOxYVDh

After 12 draws, Magnus Carlsen is once again the chess world champion - Time is of the essence
The state of Chess at the highest level is amazing.

> The result is human chess that increasingly resembles computer chess. Chess.com has developed a metric, Computer Aggregated Precision Score (CAPS), which compares a player’s moves to those of a top engine. Mr Carlsen scores higher than any other champion; his moves parallel those of the engine’s more than 85% of the time, and his overall choices are better than 98% as effective as those of the computer.

These players are literal human computers. ♟

HyperText Design Issues: Topology
It may be useful to have bidirectional links from the point of view of managing data. For example: if a document is destroyed or moved, one is aware of what dangling links will be created, and can possibly fix them.

A compromise that links be one-way in the data model, but that a reverse link is created when any link is made, so long as this can be done without infringing protection. An alternative is for the reverse links to be gathered by a background process operating on a basically monodirectionally linked web. See Building Back-links.

Mission - Arts Writers Grant Program
[also: awesome site layout] The Arts Writers grant supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in four categories—articles, blogs, books and short-form writing—these grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from scholarly studies to self-published blogs. We also support art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods or experiments with literary styles. As long as a writer meets the eligibility and publishing requirements, they can apply.
