New Study Shows the Impact of PBL on Student Achievement | Edutopia
CONCLUSIONS ABOUT PBL AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
So does PBL raise student achievement? Our version of PBL did work to improve achievement as compared to business-as-usual instruction in high-poverty, low-performing school districts. We do not claim that all versions of PBL work, or in all contexts. For example, over the years, we have observed some versions of PBL that are far less standards-aligned than what we designed and that do not incorporate specific research-supported instructional techniques—these may have been shown to be ineffective using our research design. And as noted, PBL was more effective in classrooms where it was implemented with a higher degree of fidelity to the intended model.

Rather than saying that PBL raises or does not raise student achievement compared to other approaches, the most defensible stance from our research is that PBL can raise student achievement in high-poverty communities. Next steps in our field are to continue to inquire and refine our understanding of the specific circumstances under which it does raise student achievement and as compared to what. That is the project for project-based learning.

IAB: Podcast ad revenue grew 86% in 2017 to hit $314M | Marketing Dive
U.S. podcast ad revenue hit an estimated $314 million in 2017, an 86% increase from $169 million in 2016, according to findings from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PwC made available to Marketing Dive. The report, the IAB's second annual Podcast Revenue Study, forecasts that podcast revenue will reach $659 million by 2020, a 110% increase from 2017.
The preferred type of podcast ad was host-read, which made up two-thirds of podcast ads in 2017. Direct response ads accounted for 64.2% of campaign revenue, with brand awareness ads at 29.2%. Ads integrated or edited into programming made up 58% of the podcast ad inventory in 2017, up from 43.6% in the previous year.

Study: Search ad spending grew 10% worldwide last year | Mobile Marketer
Global search ad spend grew 10.4% in 2017 as marketers plowed more money into mobile campaigns, per a report by search analytics firm Adthena shared with Mobile Marketer. Monetization of text and Google Shopping ads in mobile search results was a huge driver for search ad spending globally.

Mobile search results on Google, which controls 93% of the mobile search market, feature four top-of-page text ads that mobile users with smaller smartphone screens must scroll through before they see organic listings. Search results are mostly indiscernible from text ads that show a green “Ad” box and a gray info button, and the comparable lack of ad-blocking software on mobile browsers helped to boost clickthrough rates (CTRs) in Q4 2017 from a year earlier, per Adthena.
