Salesforce adds low-code tools so everyone can automate their CRM workflow
Probably the most important aspect of the new tools announced today is that they are based on the Lightning Design System, and so form part of the entire landscape of tools used to build Salesforce CRM applications. In earlier generations of the Salesforce platform, people often came up against what insiders used to call a ‘declarative cliff’, where they would come up against one small element that couldn’t be done via point-and-click, and then the whole process would have to be coded from scratch. Because the new tools are part of a single platform, the objects and process flows they create can be fine-tuned in Lightning App Builder, or handed over to a developer for more in-depth coding as required.

Everything is worse, except your phone: The jarring spectacle of an Apple Keynote in 2018
Products will be introduced: new things with screens, new things that play music, maybe new things that attach to your body. People with nice teeth will come onstage to demonstrate the new wonders of the global age. Except they are not really new wonders, and the aesthetics of the event feel out of sync with the chaotic, uncertain times.

I agree with that - I stayed on my 4S for ages waiting for the SE to come out. But I fear Apple learnt their lesson with the SE - it is too hard to make the UI work that small. Even Apple apps have cases where the UI barely works.

Even stuff like ProMotion hasn't made it's way to the Mac. Meantime HDR10 and 120hz are all over the PC side once you get out of the entry level stuff.

I love high quality screens so I'm not going to complain too much but...

Why is Apple shoving technology great for movie watching like HDR10 into our phones, and not onto our Macs where we actually make and watch movies?

VRT Network Equipment - VRT Systems
We're in the business of industrial automation and systems integration, so our need for network equipment is a little different to a traditional IT company. We happen to use LibreOffice for drawing system network diagrams and since we couldn't find a decent collection of consistently-styled equipment shapes that suited our needs, we created our own.

These are designed to allow the creation of network diagrams in a similar style to those produced by Microsoft Visio®. Over 180 shapes in dark and light variants, all drawn in native vector form in a way that allows them to be scaled to any size, and have the line thickness altered without breaking their appearance.

DARPA Wants to Find Botnets Before They Attack
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency on Aug. 30 awarded a $1.2 million contract to cybersecurity firm Packet Forensics to develop novel ways to locate and identify these hidden online armies. The award comes as part of the agency’s Harnessing Autonomy for Countering Cyber-adversary Systems program, a DARPA spokesperson told Nextgov. Through the HACCS program, DARPA aims to build a system that can automatically pinpoint botnet-infected devices and disable their malware without their owners ever knowing. Launched in 2017, the program is investing in three main technologies: systems that uncover and fingerprint botnets across the internet, tools that upload software to infected devices through known security gaps, and software that disables botnet malware once it’s uploaded. Packet Forensics’ technology falls under that first category, the DARPA spokesperson said. The effort is scheduled to last to four years, with the first phase running 16 months. Later phases include additional funding.
