Discrimination Defense Lawyer Confirmed for Trump Civil Rights Post (1)
The Senate Oct. 11 confirmed Eric Dreiband, a Jones Day attorney who defends companies accused of discrimination, to lead the Justice Department office that enforces anti-bias laws and investigates police civil rights cases.

Dreiband represented the University of North Carolina when it implemented policies under the state’s since-repealed “bathroom bill,” requiring people to use gender-designated restroom facilities based on the biological sex listed on their birth certificates. He also won a case for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco that made it harder for workers to sue for age discrimination under federal law.

Muscular men prefer an unequal society
Muscular men prefer an unequal society, suggests a new study (n=6,349). Men with large upper-bodies have a tendency to favour inequality in society and a limited redistribution of resources. The results challenge the belief that our political views are formed by logic and reason alone.

KateCake - You Make Me Feel Breathless
Bakugou's hanging out with friends at the mall when a little boy's quirk manifests. All he wanted was a new video game; now he's being forced to stand around with a bunch of extras while the rent-a-bops try to figure out how large the area of effect is. It's a pain in the ass really. It's not like he's coughing up fucking flowers.

He just wishes his lungs would actually process oxygen so he can stop feeling so damn breathless all the time.

globalinequality: Democracy of convenience, not of choice: why is Eastern Europe different
Their histories are practically nothing but unending struggles for national and religious emancipation (when the religion of the conqueror differed from theirs, as in the case of Ottomans and the Orthodox, or as between Catholics and Protestants).  National emancipation meant the creation of a nation-state that would ideally include all members of one’s community. Of course, none of the nations were averse, when given half a chance, to convert themselves into the rulers of other weaker neighboring states—so there was no valid ethical superiority they had compared to the empires that ruled, and often oppressed, them. The line between the oppressed and the oppressor was always thin.
