Tiggly On Smart Toys to Reduce Screen Time | PYMNTS.com
And as a recent New York Times report pointed out in great detail, attitudes about kids and tech are changing. In Silicon Valley’s most elite private schools, the policy is no screen time for any student. And among the programmers who build the tech, there is a lot of genuine uncertainty about how safe it is to put that tech into their own kids’ hands.

The trouble is that good or bad, screens exist – and are so incredibly prevalent at this point that without an awful lot of vigilance (not to mention a pretty large amount of free time and stimulating analog toys), it is hard to keep kids off them.

But the team at Tiggly has a different idea when it comes to kids, screens and playtime. Instead of trying to swim against the current and fight what is likely a losing battle against technology, their focus is finding ways to make screens a part of playtime without allowing passive staring or semi-active tapping to become a kid’s dominant mode of play.

Helping the drug discovery community deliver | Medicines Discovery Catapult
The most exciting time in history to be in medicines discovery

Drug discovery is still failing too often: new treatment types are outdating the ‘white pill once per day’. Instead data is in the driving seat; it’s the most exciting time in history to be in medicines discovery.

Despite the many treatments we have today we are still scratching the surface of disease and new modes of therapy. We have a long way to go to really target addressable patient subgroups with any precision, particularly outside of cancer. If this sounds depressing, it should not. This conference was about delivering, not despairing. It’s the most exciting time in history to be in medicines discovery.

Adidas e-commerce sales boom 76% | Retail Dive
Adidas on Wednesday reported that third quarter currency-neutral revenues rose 8% or 3% to €5.87 billion from €5.68 billion last year ($6.72 billion from $6.5 billion, respectively, in U.S. dollars). Top-line sales were driven by double-digit growth in direct-to-consumer revenues with particular strength in e-commerce, where revenues grew 76% in the quarter, according to a company press release.

By brand in the quarter: Adidas revenues rose 10%, driven by double-digit growth in sport inspired and high-single-digit growth in sport performance, especially training and running. Reebok revenues fell 5% as double-digit growth in classics was more than offset by declines in training and running.

Recognition for a Much-Neglected English Catholic Artist
David Jones: Engraver, Soldier, Painter, Poet by Thomas Dilworth is the recently published and definitive biography of Jones. It will spark renewed interest in the various aspects of the Londoner’s creativity...Off duty one wet Sunday, Fusilier Jones wandered along the frontline looking for firewood. He came upon a byre where he thought he might find some wood. Putting his eye to a crack in the paling he spied two candles and a man dressed in liturgical vestments facing a stack of ammunition boxes covered in a white cloth. Half a dozen men knelt around this figure. Unexpectedly, the tinkling of a bell broke the silence, followed by Latin words, gently spoken. Jones was to express “marvel” at such a thing, which he realized was a Catholic Mass, taking place so close to the front line..by the time Jones “saw” the Mass for the first time, he was already being drawn intellectually and aesthetically to Catholicism. This moment of unlooked-for “sacramentality” impressed Jones deeply. He was never to forget it. In fact, his later ideas about art as “sacrament” were to be a constant lodestar.Although Jones lived modestly, with a seemingly monastic detachment from possessions and wealth, he was a welcome and beloved visitor at the homes of the wealthy and the powerful, from Downing Street to Buckingham Palace, and through to the home of T.S. Eliot (his publisher at Faber and Faber). For the last twenty years of his life, from the early 1950s onwards, Jones was living in a ‘cell-like’ room in Harrow, in North West London. And yet, this small room, in a shared household, was to witness a constant parade of composers, poets, film stars, actors, artists, writers, and politicians who came to visit him.

Dollar Shave Club next week will debut vending machines with trial-size versions of its products, the company told Retail Dive in an email. The machines will feature six kits, for $12 each, of various products including shave, shower, hair care, skin care, freshen up and "greatest hits," with the most popular product from each product line. Dollar Shave Club members will get an app notification when they're near a machine, the company said.

The machines will be installed in high-traffic areas, including mass transit hubs like airports and train stations and "hyper-retail" shopping centers like malls and stadiums that feature entertainment and dining as well as retail, the company said. Locations include the Mall of America in Minnesota, the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco, and Roosevelt Field in Long Island and LaGuardia Airport in New York, a spokesperson told Retail Dive in an email.
