This Short Movie Outsources A Frustrating Part Of Dating
This Short Movie Outsources A Frustrating Part Of Dating https://ift.tt/2I7RJsM Prospective https://ift.tt/2rCMbeR May 11, 2018 at 04:30PM

What: A funny, brief look at a tech solution to one particularly thorny aspect of dating.

Who: YouTube sketch crew Extremely Decent.

Why we care: As simple as our modern, Tinderized world has made it to meet potential suitors, it’s still as daunting as ever to actually cross the dating threshold. It’s not easy to put yourself out there and ask someone out, or to field offers when people are constantly asking you out. Extremely Decent has envisioned a neat solution to streamline these pesky pre-date communications. In the comedy group’s new video, “Call Me,” a woman gives out her phone number at a party–a phone number which eventually leads to the equivalent of a customer service team for dating. So, if Greg is truly interested in Ashley, he’ll have to get past her representative who informs him: “I’m sorry, sir, that offer expired once Ashley sobered up and realized she may have given out her phone number a little too liberally last night.” It’s a tough road to hoe, but it beats getting ghosted.

Silicon Valley Can't Be Trusted With Our History
> A tweet that was meant to be forgotten within minutes resurfaces years later to cost someone their job, while a video providing unambiguous evidence of war crimes disappears without a trace. A handful of enormous tech companies curate the public library we conjure into existence every day, and they can and do delete it at a whim.

Alexa and Siri Can Hear This Hidden Command. You Can’t. - The New York Times
A group of students from University of California, Berkeley, and Georgetown University showed in 2016 that they could hide commands in white noise played over loudspeakers and through YouTube videos to get smart devices to turn on airplane mode or open a website.

This month, some of those Berkeley researchers published a research paper that went further, saying they could embed commands directly into recordings of music or spoken text. So while a human listener hears someone talking or an orchestra playing, Amazon’s Echo speaker might hear an instruction to add something to your shopping list.

The 3 Things Employees Really Want: Career, Community, Cause
I like the easy to remember "C's" in this article and can see that being a good way to communicate to your team as well as when hiring. Organizations and leaders should have solid, clear messages on all three of these.

The discussion about Millennials to me feels off though. I would suggest the weighting of different values is more connected to where a person is in their lifespan, not about the generation of their birth. Cause, which I would suggest is closely connected to the "Why?", grows in importance with age. I believe that's true for Baby Boomers, Gen X/Y and Millennials.
