Michael B. Jordan Is a 'Black Panther' Encyclopedia | WIRED
Michael B. Jordan Is a 'Black Panther' Encyclopedia http://ift.tt/2EoWW9O Prospective http://ift.tt/2CnYcZ2 February 14, 2018 at 07:12PM

In Black Panther, the titular hero is played by Chadwick Boseman, but it might be his cinematic adversary who knows more about his character. When we sat down with the cast of the new Marvel movie and started asking questions about the Wakandan king T’Challa, it was Michael B. Jordan, who plays villain Erik Killmonger, who knew the most comic book history about his onscreen foe.

Need proof? Ask Jordan who Black Panther is and he won't just say "the king of Wakanda," he'll say that he “fought Captain America throughout Marvel comic history.” Ask him if the hero has superpowers and he’ll respond, “Yeah, he does. He takes a Heart-Shaped Herb; it gives him super strength, a lot of cat-like qualities. Pretty cool.” Ask him whether T’Challa or Cap is stronger and the answer is: “They’re the same, but Black Panther edged out Captain America in almost every battle that they had throughout Marvel history.” He even has an excellent argument for who would win in a battle between T'Challa and Wolverine. Sure, some of his intel may have been in the script, but there's no denying Jordan is an encyclopedia of Wakandan knowledge.

But that’s just the beginning of the fun facts in this Google Autocomplete interview. Watch the video above to find out whether Boseman has siblings, how many languages Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) speaks, and which member of the cast is good at karaoke. (Hint: It’s the one who once played a famous soul singer.)

A Siri scriptwriter says composing lines for AI is like writing an “absurdist play”

How do AI-powered virtual assistants figure out what to say? Scriptwriters come up with their lines.

A means to an end: Most people use conversations with virtual assistants transactionally. Exchanges consist mostly of “Alexa, order me more paper towels” or “Siri, play ‘Born to Run’ by Bruce Springsteen.” Scriptwriters have to learn the best way to help to users achieve their intended goals, while also planning for twists and turns.

Siri’s improv skills: As Mariana Lin, writer and creative director for Siri, wrote in the Paris Review: “Writing for AI, then, can be a bit like writing an absurdist play. You have a character, you have some goals in mind. But there’s no accounting for what the other characters, the humans, will say or do.”

In-depth conversation: It’s a new avenue of employment for out-of-work Hollywood writers and poets. But for some it’s about more than just making ends meet. Lin says her goal is for AI not to limit the depth and intricacy of human discussion. It can, she believes, create “inspired conversation in our lives.”

A list of 25 Principles of Adult Behavior by John Perry Barlow
1. Be patient. No matter what.
2. Don’t badmouth: Assign responsibility, not blame. Say nothing of another you wouldn’t say to him.
3. Never assume the motives of others are, to them, less noble than yours are to you.
4. Expand your sense of the possible.
5. Don’t trouble yourself with matters you truly cannot change.
6. Expect no more of anyone than you can deliver yourself.
7. Tolerate ambiguity.
8. Laugh at yourself frequently.
9. Concern yourself with what is right rather than who is right.
10. Never forget that, no matter how certain, you might be wrong.
11. Give up blood sports.
12. Remember that your life belongs to others as well. Don’t risk it frivolously.
13. Never lie to anyone for any reason. (Lies of omission are sometimes exempt.)
14. Learn the needs of those around you and respect them.
15. Avoid the pursuit of happiness. Seek to define your mission and pursue that.
16. Reduce your use of the first personal pronoun.
17. Praise at least as often as you disparage.
18. Admit your errors freely and soon.
19. Become less suspicious of joy.
20. Understand humility.
21. Remember that love forgives everything.
22. Foster dignity.
23. Live memorably.
24. Love yourself.
25. Endure.
