Lexus dealers say team effort led to 3-row RX
Lexus dealers in the U.S. have long pushed the automaker for a three-row version of the best-selling RX crossover, and thanks to close cooperation between the dealer council and top Lexus executives, this is the year it happened.

"We worked through the council process, we went to Japan, [Lexus General Manager] Jeff Bracken really believed in this product and we all came to the sense that this is absolutely something our customers want," said Carl Sewell III, chairman of the Lexus National Dealer Advisory Council. "And now it's going to be arriving in our showrooms."

Mazda, dealers work to improve stores' profitability
"What we've been trying to do is build a model that, if you can succeed with the brand and sell some cars and you run an operation that is reasonable, can you get a good return on sales, get a good return on net?" Jim Bagan, chairman of the Mazda National Dealer Advisory Council, told Automotive News. "We feel very comfortable that over the last two years, we've built that."

The top 25 percent of Mazda's nearly 600 rooftops are "as profitable as Honda and Toyota stores," Bagan said. But there is an "issue of that middle band, from 25 to 70 percent, that are not performing as well as Mazda or we, as dealers, feel we should be able to perform."

Subaru Ascent should be a conquest vehicle
Wally Sommer, chairman of the Subaru National Retailer Advisory Board and president of Sommer's Subaru in Mequon, Wis., said retailers began taking Ascent orders in mid-February and will start receiving vehicles in June.

"Subaru is hearing about demand from retailers that is very strong and is looking forward to filling several months of production with sold orders," Sommer told Automotive News.

Google’s new cloud storage plans could be the start of something way b
Google’s new cloud storage plans could be the start of something way bigger https://ift.tt/2jV7PaE Prospective https://ift.tt/2IkbpFP May 14, 2018 at 11:12PM

Google is retooling and rebranding its consumer cloud storage plans. Previously known as Google Drive storage, the new service will be called Google One, and will include more than just storage.

Plans will still start at $2 per month for 100 GB, but Google is now adding a 200 GB tier for $3 per month and doubling the storage of its $10 per month plan from 1 TB to 2 TB. Users can also share their storage with up to five family members. (All Google users still get 15 GB of storage at no charge.)

Beyond cloud storage, all paid plans will offer round-the-clock tech support for Google products by email, chat, or phone, and TechCrunch reports that other benefits–such as Google Play credits and discounts on Google-based travel bookings–could arrive over time. This sounds like the start of a broader Google subscription plan that bundles many services together, in a way that might compete with Amazon Prime.

For now, Google is moving slowly, rolling out Google One in the U.S. over the next few months, and globally after that.

At exactly fifteen minutes past eight in the morning, on August 6, 1945, Japanese time, at the moment when the atomic bomb flashed above Hiroshima, Miss Toshiko Sasaki, a clerk in the personnel department of the East Asia Tin Works, had just sat down at her place in the plant office and was turning her head to speak to the girl at the next desk.

Solar eclipse started Mitsubishi's Eclipse buzz
The 2018 Eclipse Cross is an all-new model for the Japanese automaker, bearing the name from one of Mitsubishi's iconic vehicles, the Eclipse.

However, the original Eclipse was a sporty coupe. The Eclipse Cross is not.

But the new compact crossover is just what Mitsubishi dealers have been clamoring for, said Joe Bizzarro, chairman of the Mitsubishi National Advisory Board.

More money for marketing, BMW dealers say
With a cascade of new and redesigned vehicles arriving in BMW showrooms in the next year, dealers are asking the automaker to put more marketing money behind the product onslaught.

"We feel we need more marketing money for these launches, but we're going to work with BMW," said Patrick Womack, chairman of the BMW National Dealer Forum. "The message was sent when we were in Munich by a few other dealers that we would like to see some more emphasis put on marketing and the budget from Munich."
