Facebook Expands Rights Manager to Cover Video Content Posted to Instagram
Here’s a small, but important, update - Facebook has announced that it has expanded its Rights Manager tool to help monitor and protect video on Instagram, in addition to Facebook. As explained by Facebook: “While we’ve always provided tools for rights owners to report potential IP violations on Instagram, now Rights Manager offers another way to help protect your videos.” Rights Manager works by cross-referencing your uploaded video content against other uploads, and alerting content owners to potential violations.

New study reveals 84% of vegetarians return to meat
The first study on eating habits of vegetarians in the US has shown that those who gave up meat for health reasons are much more likely to abandon their meat-free diets than those who became vegetarians for philosophical reasons.

Free talk Friday : consulting
a really close second was the lobster "pie" (deconstructed lobster bisque pot pie?). The bisque was good, the lobster tail was huge and delicious, but the garlic flan was incredible. I noticed that the garlic flan was changing the flavor of the lobster tail as I was chewing it in my mouth. I let my girlfriend try some lobster, then gave her some garlic flan, and she noted the same change. It tasted like some meat I've never had that was rich and full of umami.

Cryptomining is surprisingly easy, but I'm still 8 months from breaking even - Business Insider
<<When more-powerful graphics cards are released, miners increasingly replace their older models. The difficulty of the crypto problems that mining solves starts to increase, and the older graphics cards become less efficient and slower at solving them, all while consuming the same amount of electricity.>>

"Eliminate the Muslim: Science, Religion, and the Future of Brown" - AAD Technology & Support Services - Harvard Wiki
A talk and talk-back lecture with SRC Program Director Ahmed Ragab,
Richard T. Watson Associate Professor of Science and Religion
Monday, February 12, 2018  •  6:00–7:30 PM
Sperry Room

In a present punctuated by bans, walls, registries, violence, and deportations, what is the future of black, brown, and queer? The B/B/Q person is stuck in a timeplay where the future is only a repetition of the present, and affirmation of the past. Thinking through science (fiction), religion and culture, we discuss what the future means, what time entails and what implications a timeplay has on present and future identities.

The talk/talk-back will be followed by a Science, Religion, and Culture Program open-house reception in the Braun Room. Refreshments will be served.

The Political Scientist Giving the Art World Something to Think About
"What Mr. Deneen identifies as liberal societies’ “pervasive amnesia about the past” has further undermined the traditional culture of collecting. “Salvator Mundi” might have achieved a one-off, landmark price (in an auction of contemporary art), but generally old masters are now far less fashionable with the superrich than they were in the days of the Czar of Russia. On Feb. 1, Sotheby’s annual evening sale of master paintings in New York raised $48.4 million, a seemingly substantial total, until one recalls that the company’s biannual evening auction of contemporary art in November raised $310.2 million.

Today’s art world, in fact, offers one of the most conspicuous manifestations of what Mr. Deneen identifies as “the extreme presentism of the contemporary era,” as well as its “new aristocracy” of economic winners."
